Transformation Day

The Las Vegas City Council invited the public to join Mayor Oscar B. Goodman, Mayor Pro Tem Gary Reese, City of Las Vegas staff, representatives of the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department, Stratosphere Hotel, various faith-based organizations, business community leaders and residents of the Gateway District community, to the Neighborhood Transformation Celebration at the Gateway District on Saturday April 25th.

The Gateway District, once known as "Naked City" is located behind the Stratosphere Hotel in the area of Fairfield Avenue, Industrial Road, New York Avenue and Sahara Avenue.

The day of festivities began at 8:45 a.m. on Saturday, April 25, with community volunteers there to help beautify the neighborhood by removing trash, trimming plants and weeds, painting curbs and graffiti.

"This neighborhood has seen a lot of changes over the years," said Councilman Reese, who represents this area of Ward 3. "I'm pleased to be part of these clean-up efforts. Everyone working together will make a tremendous difference."

Following the beautification work at 11 a.m., vendors were on hand until 2 p.m. to provide volunteers with free hot dogs and sodas (Courtesy of the Stratosphere), entertainment and prize drawings. A drawing was held for a free pre-owned car, courtesy of Expedite Towing.

A variety of information, community services and free household goods was also available to attendees. We gave away at least 10,000 pounds of groceries.

It was a previledge and honor to serve as the Entertaiment Commitee Chairman. We had several groups who volunteered to perform:

  1. Victorious (wearevictorious.com)
  2. C.O.P - Child of Prophecy - Solo Gospel Rap Artist
  3. Reggaetone (Latino Gospel Rap Group)
  4. Victory Outreach ( Lation Gospel Rap Group)
  5. Calvary Chapel Mesa - Praise & Worship Group
  6. Humility - Gospel Rap Group
