Tom
opened at the MGM last night for two terrific weeks. We’re not expecting
anything new on the setlist (c’mon, Sugar
Daddy!) but of course there’ll be a solid show, great musicians and
the usual audience — diehard fans who travel thousands or hundreds of miles to
see him, local fans who feel when Tom’s in town that all’s right with the world
(kind of like, you don’t have to see him every night, but it’s just nice knowing
he’s so close by) and those who will see Tom for the first time and become fans.
For Tom, playing the MGM is probably the best of both worlds. Staying in one place and getting to perform with no jet lag or long car/bus ride.
The next two weekends, by the way, are Las Vegas entertainment the way it used to be — huge stars playing different rooms in one venue. This Friday and Saturday the MGM will be a very crowded place with the Dave Matthews Band at the arena and next Saturday, May 16, the great Jimmy Buffet brings thousands of parrotheads to town, so if you don’t have a reservation don’t plan on dropping in on the MGM expecting a room.
If you see Tom of course, let us know about it. I’ll do the same for you.
