Vegas PBS Provides On-going H1N1 Coverage With “The NewsHour with Jim
Lehrer” and Teaches Children Vital Health Tips Through “Sid the Science
Kid”

Vegas
PBS’ “The NewsHour with Jim Lehrer” brings the H1N1 flu virus to
the forefront of its nightly weekday coverage with upcoming
segments focused on breaking news throughout Mexico and the
United States. Upcoming coverage includes on-air and online
reporting from the NewsHour Health Unit led by Betty Ann Bowser
at CDC headquarters in Atlanta, Ga. Reporter Ray Suarez and his
team will provide news direct from Mexico with close examination
of the Mexican health system’s response to the crisis. “The
NewsHour with Jim Lehrer” airs weekday nights at 6 p.m. on Vegas
PBS Channel 10 and 10.1.

and external resources for individuals looking for the latest

Beginning May
11, Vegas PBS features a health-themed week of “Sid the Science
Kid” programming. Children can learn health tips through the
series such as the importance of washing their hands and
covering their mouth when coughing through the series. “Sid the
Science Kid” airs every weekday at 8:30 a.m. and 12:30 p.m. on
Channel 10 and 10.1.
In addition
to special on-air programming, PBSKIDS GO! features an online
game called the Fetch “Germinator” that teaches children how
germs spread and how the immune system works. The game is
intended to help reinforce healthy habits and can be found at

For more than 40 years, Vegas PBS has provided
Southern Nevada with quality, commercial free programming, media and media
delivery technology. Vegas PBS provides broadcast TV and cable over seven
channels with an additional six educational channels provided directly to the
classroom. Vegas PBS local productions include, Nevada Week in Review, Your

on its Educational Technology Campus, a model for sustainability and green
building practices representing the first television station in North America to

opening in August 2009, the Vegas PBS Educational Technology Campus will house
Vegas PBS studios and offices, the CCSD Virtual High School, Educational Media
Services, the Emergency Response Data-casting System, public meeting rooms and
