Sir
Tom returned to the MGM Grand last night to a wildly enthusiastic audience. The
only stillness in the house — oddly and with few exceptions — came from most of
the fans sitting at the stageside tables. One would think being
thisclose would energize them, not
turn them pretty much catatonic. They were still, but the rest of the house was
rocking.
Tom added a few extra moves during Kiss that drew screams from the audience. (Maybe he was unsteady for a second and had to grab onto something?) A couple of thongs were tossed but, as he should, after mugging for a second, Tom just ignored them. A couple of inflatable daffodils were waved by some Welsh lasses, but he didn’t seem to see them.
We
sat with two Aussies from Brisbane who had a grand time. On the other side was a
fan from Boston who was in Las Vegas to celebrate her 50th birthday and to get
married. Her new husband bought her the ticket. She was a show unto herself —
having a blast, loving every minute and everyone there knew it.
The setlist is holding steady and is a wonderful vehicle to show off The Voice. The band and singers were their usual stunningly good selves. (And wait until you see Herman Matthews’ new look!) If I didn’t mention it before, the lighting is the best it’s been in a loooong time. Whomever designed it was masterful.
For those who are interested, Tom wore the black velvet jacket BeBe described in her dispatch from Florida. The consensus at our table is that she was correct in her assessment. But, of course, what Tom wears is totally unimportant when compared to the talent inside that clothing.
Tom is a smash. The show is a smash. And, business seems to be picking up in Las Vegas. So that’s all good.
If you see the show, please let us all know what you thought.
