Las Vegas One of High Profile Urban Areas Receiving Added Dollars Under UASI Program
“The bright lights, entertainment and attractions that Las Vegas has to offer draw huge numbers of visitors from around the globe and with these crowds comes the need for additional resources to protect against threats, including acts of terrorism. These funds will help our first responders maintain the ability to act in the case of an emergency or threat to public safety. In addition to $8.1 million in funding for the Las Vegas Valley under the Urban Area Security Initiative, more than $8.4 million will now flow to Nevada under the State Homeland Security Program. These dollars will help pay for critical investments in maintaining our capability to prevent or respond to incidents involving terrorism or other threats to the health and safety of families and visitors in Las Vegas and around the Silver State,” said Berkley. Urban Area Security Initiative (UASI): Provides funding to select high-threat, high-density urban areas to assist them in building enhanced and sustainable capabilities to prevent, protect against, respond to and recover from acts of terrorism.
