City Joins North Valley Community In Fraud Fighting Event

As part of the upcoming North Valley Leadership Team meeting, the State of Nevada Fight Fraud Task Force will offer a free panel presentation covering fraudulent practices and scams that have been identified in Southern Nevada.

The event will be from 10 a.m. to noon on Saturday, July 11, at the Pearson Community Center Room A, 1625 W. Carey Ave.  The session will feature guest speakers from the state Attorney General’s Office, Clark County Recorder’s Office and the state’s Fight Fraud Task Force.  Other topics of discussion will include Medicare fraud and identity theft.

The North Valley Leadership Team is made up of members of the North Valley community, located in the City’s urban core.  It operates with support from North Las Vegas City staff.  The team’s goal is to improve the North Valley neighborhood by increasing home ownership, property values and employment opportunities, encouraging commercial development, residential in-fill and community pride, and by reducing crime.  North Valley is roughly bound by Cartier Street to the north, Martin Luther King Boulevard and Comstock Street to the east, Lake Mead Boulevard to the south and Simmons Street to the west.  The area is home to about 3,300 residents.

Losee Road Under Construction

The City of North Las Vegas Public Works Department on Monday, July 6, began construction to improve Losee Road from Lake Mead Boulevard to Alexander Road to improve traffic flow in the City’s core.

The project includes re-paving and re-striping the road, making improvements to the sidewalks to comply with the Americans with Disabilities Act, making utility adjustments and improving signage.

To minimize the project’s impact on rush-hour traffic and access to area businesses, the City will be coordinating weekend “pave-a-thons.”

Motorists are encouraged to plan alternate routes to avoid construction-related congestion and to alleviate traffic delays.

Construction is expected to be complete in February 2010.

For more information, call North Las Vegas Construction Manager Melissa Sharp in Public Works at (702) 633-1245.
