Yes,
there is a restaurant called Cheeseburger in the Miracle
Mile Shops at Planet Hollywood. Like many eclectic places,
Cheeseburger was created in the most unusual of
circumstances.
Over 20
years ago, Laren Gardner and Edna Bayliff worked together as
picture framers at the Orange County Swap Meet and,
admittedly, they both wanted a more adventurous life.
During one vacation together, they traveled to Hawaii, with
an extended stay at Lahaina on Mahi, one of Hawaii's most
interesting historic towns as well as the former Hawaiian
capital. After eating fish for several weeks, Gardner told
her friend Bayliff that she would love a big, juicy
cheeseburger but none could be found on the island. They
returned to Orange County, Calif. but their hearts were not
in their work and decided to risk everything to open a
restaurant in Lahaina offering cheeseburgers.

With a
slogan of “Cheeseburgers, Mai Tais and Rock n Roll,” they
opened their first restaurant and continued to expand their
chain in Hawaii, first at Waikiki and then Wailea on Maui’s
south side. Cheeseburger in Las Vegas is their fourth
restaurant with an additional restaurant in Florida and two
in Waikiki.

The
décor is tropical/souvenir store/thrift store/Hawaiian
beaches. Be prepared for loud, colorful, noisy fun as well
as great food and a very funny wait staff. There is a retail
store with tee shirts, hats and all sorts of memorabilia to
remind anyone of their time at Cheeseburger.
The
incredible number of toppings for a cheeseburger is too many
to list, but one of their cheeseburgers is Cheeseburger Las
Vegas with stacks of meat and cheeses smothered in Thousand
Island dressing on a thick toasty bun. Another popular
burger is Laren and Edna’s Favorite Cheeseburger, topped
with grilled Maui pineapple and a signature ginger dressing.
It all began with the Five Napkin Cheeseburger topped with a
thick slice of their special Colby and Jack Cheese mix. For
breakfast, the Ali’i Cheeseburger is served topped with a
fried egg and crispy bacon. For a taste kick, there is the
Blue and Blue Cheeseburger topped with crumbled blue cheese
and crispy bacon.

Fries are
extra and the portion is almost one pound, so plan on
sharing. There is also ono onion rings coated with a flaky
crumb breading.
If not in
the mood for a cheeseburger, eat healthy with Polynesian
coconut shrimp or a Mahi Mahi sandwich. For the real health
conscious, Polynesian chicken salad sandwich or a variety of
salads are offered. When it comes to adult beverages, there
is a Mai Tai bar offering Mai Tais, tropical fruit
margaritas and smoothies.

What is a
kitchy place without decadent desserts? Their desserts
include their World Famous Cheeseburger Mud Pie (ice cream
covered in whipped cream), Triple Chocolate Fudge Cake,
White Chocolate Mac Nut Cheesecake and Maui Dreamcycle
Cake.
Go on –
have a cheeseburger – you know you want to!
Hours are
