Valley’s Finest Lifeguards to Compete in S. Nevada Lifeguard Games
The Nevada Recreation and Park Society Southern Nevada Aquatics Committee is bringing the area’s finest lifeguards together to compete in the annual Southern Nevada Lifeguard Games at 6 p.m. on Saturday, July 25, at Whitney Ranch Indoor Pool, 1575 C Galleria Dr. in Henderson. Check-in starts at 5 p.m. Only registered teams may compete, but the public is welcome to attend and watch the competition. Admission is free.

This year’s competition features lifeguard teams from the City of Henderson, City of Las Vegas, City of North Las Vegas, Clark County, Paris Las Vegas/Bally’s Las Vegas, and the YMCA. Lifeguard teams from city and county recreation departments, private corporations and non-profit organizations may participate.
“We always hope that our lifesaving skills will never be needed, but if they are, it’s our job as lifeguards to be ready to ensure the safety and well-being of our patrons,” said Angela Hester, Aquatics supervisor for the City of Henderson Parks and Recreation Department. “The Lifeguard Games gives lifeguards from across the Las Vegas Valley the chance to get together and demonstrate their skills, knowledge, endurance and teamwork. The best of the best will be competing and showcasing their skills.”
Teams of six lifeguards each will compete in a cardiac relay; timed shallow water spinal rescue; rapid rescue tube relay; tipsy tube relay; and the gauntlet, where competitors swim 75 yards total, carrying a brick for 25 yards. Agencies’ junior lifeguard teams may also compete in select events.
Plaques and certificates will be awarded to the winning and placing teams and to the top three competitors in each event.
The Nevada Recreation and Park Society Southern Nevada Aquatic Committee assists with the development, delivery and coordination of a forum for aquatic professionals in Southern Nevada in an effort to provide the community with quality service. The committee hosts several events each year, including the Southern Nevada Lifeguard Games.
