December 27, 2009 – Washington, D.C. – Congresswoman Dina Titus of Nevada’s Third District released the following statement following the attempted terrorist attack on December 25, 2009:
“As a member of the House Committee on Homeland Security and the Subcommittee on Transportation Security and Infrastructure Protection, I am extremely troubled by this failed terrorist attack. It is fortunate that the attack was not successful, but the incident highlights the need for the United States to be vigilant in securing our homeland and working with our foreign partners to ensure that stringent security standards are met at all airports 100% of the time.
“The Committee has begun an investigation and will hold a hearing next month to receive testimony on this incident, as well as to discuss changes in security procedures that might be necessary. As a member of the Committee, I look forward to working with my colleagues to eliminate any vulnerabilities that may have been exposed in Friday’s failed attacks.
“The President and the Secretary of Homeland Security ordered that security be increased at airports. While some of the extra security will be visible, the traveling public will not see a number of other measures. Travelers should allow themselves extra time when departing for the airport during this busy holiday season and report any unusual behavior immediately to the appropriate authorities.”
