Grand Opening Celebration for
Heritage Park Aquatic Complex and
Heritage Park Senior Facility Set for January 30, 2010

Enhanced Recreation Opportunities Benefit All Residents

Heritage Park Senior Facility in Henderson, NV

January 21, 2010 – Henderson, NV – The City of Henderson Parks and Recreation Department is hosting a grand opening celebration for Heritage Park Senior Facility and Heritage Park Aquatic Complex at 10 a.m. on Saturday, Jan. 30. The Heritage Park campus is located at 300-310 S. Racetrack Rd., between Burkholder Boulevard and Newport Drive (just east of Boulder Highway). Everyone is welcome to attend.

The celebration will include a ceremonial ribbon cutting, tours of both buildings, a variety of demonstrations, and light refreshments. Mayor Andy Hafen and Councilwoman Gerri Schroder will officially open the buildings.

The 29,667-square-foot Heritage Park Senior Facility is a recreation center for adults 50+. It opened in mid December with limited programming, providing a quiet transition for patrons who previously visited the Henderson Senior Center (27 E. Texas Ave.). The building features a dance room, craft rooms, demonstration kitchen, classrooms, health screening rooms, television/media room, congregate dining room, wellness center, café and lounge equipped with WiFi, library, and a fitness center. The City is pursuing LEED Gold certification for the building.

The 41,523-square-foot Heritage Park Aquatic Complex will serve patrons of all ages. It features two indoor pools: one competitive, one instructional/therapeutic. The competition pool has fourteen 25-yard lanes with four indoor springboard diving boards. It is designed to meet U. S. Swimming and Nevada Interscholastic Athletics Association standards, and will also be used by Clark County School District swim teams. The instructional/therapy pool features a depth of up to 4 feet and warmer temperatures, making it ideal for therapeutic purposes. It has four 25-yard lanes, a teaching shelf, and a ramp entry. The Aquatic Complex includes ADA accessible pool lifts, aquatic classroom, full timing and scoring system, locker rooms, family locker room, and spectator seating for 600 people. The City is pursuing LEED Platinum certification for this building.

“Residents have been patiently waiting for these important new facilities to open, and I think they will be very pleased with the results,” said Mary Ellen Donner, director, City of Henderson Parks and Recreation Department. “In keeping with the City’s sustainability efforts, both buildings are eco-friendly and energy efficient, while also incorporating amenities that residents have told us they want most. I believe that the addition of Heritage Park’s new facilities will only serve to enhance the quality of life here in Henderson. I would encourage all residents to stop by and see what we have to offer.”

Donner said both facilities will offer a full range of programming, including water polo, diving, synchronized swimming, swim lessons for all ages, and aquatic exercise at the Aquatic Complex; and cooking, dance, pottery, and fitness classes at the Senior Facility.

In addition to these buildings, the 160-acre Heritage Park campus will also include the City’s largest dog park, ball fields, walking trails, and other outdoor amenities.
