Positive 5 2009–2010 Week 9

Each week we track the 5 college hoop teams that I have determined will show a “positive return on investment” by season’s end. This year I have selected Cornell, Tennessee, Minnesota, Siena and UNLV.

UNLV RebelsI just had to open my mouth last week. “I don’t want to brag, but I must,” I wrote after six winning weeks in a row. Well, we suffered our first losing week of the season as the Pos 5 went 6-2 SU, but only 3-5 ATS.

My timing seemed right, because the team that I dropped (exercising the option I gave myself, to replace a team that is, or about to, not play “Pos 5 ball”), the Cal. Bears, got trashed by Wash. St. before rebounding vs. the Oregon Ducks with a 89-57 win last night. Their replacement, the UNLV Rebels, fared a little better going 1-1 SU and ATS.

The Siena Saints won both of their games, but failed to cover in either.

TennesseeTennessee meanwhile, also won both of their encounters, but only managed an ATS win in one. They did however, run their streak to 10 wins in a row while staying in the top 10 in the polls, and remain tied with Kentucky in the SEC north.

The Big Red of Cornell, in their only game of the VCO week, out did the Lions of Columbia, 74-53, while covering a 19-point spread. Cornell looks to return the “favor” as they travel to Lion country for a “back-to-back” in their only game next week.

Minnesota’s Gophers lost a thriller in overtime at Indiana on Sunday, to go 0-1 both SU and ATS. They take on two top 25 teams next week, Mich. St. and Ohio St.

For the season, the Pos 5 are still a more than respectable 44-30 ATS. That will “bank” $2200, based on $220 per wager per play. Sure beats welfare... Straight up the Pos 5 are 62-24. That translates to .721 (first place in most sports leagues...)

There are about 6 weeks left before conference finals and March Madness (my favorite time of the year), so that leaves us plenty of time to pick up another “2 dimes” or so, unless you want to “press” your bets...

Got 9 games to “fire at” this next week, starting with 4 games on Sat. (Tenn., Minn., UNLV and Cornell)

See you next week. Till then…

Wishing “nothing but net.”
