Sitting on Top

Iadmit it, I absolutely love poker. I am passionate about the game. I also am a winning player. It is only Jan. and I already am excited about the 2010 World Series of Poker which doesn’t start until June!

My Daddy used to say, “How ya sitting?” Meaning, how ya doing? Today, I am sitting on top. I am in a poker club. There are 15 of us and we are all playing for the brass ring, a $10,000 seat in the 2010 World Series of Poker. We also are playing for 2nd, 3rd, 4th, and 5th places who all will win $1,000 seats. That’s a great consolation prize, but I want the pot of gold! I want to win that wonderful opportunity to play in the main event, to dance in the big dance.

Our club agreement is that we are all partners, the winner will receive 50% of any win and the rest of the club will divide the remaining money evenly. There is potential, at the WSOP, for that to be a huge sum of money. The details and rules for such poker clubs (anywhere in the country) can be found in my book, 1000 Best Poker Strategies and Secrets (Sourcebooks).

We have now had six games (monthly) with four to go to determine the winners. We play for some money, but more importantly, we play for points. I figured if I could stay in the top six in every game, I would win a seat. Last weekend, I won the whole enchilada! That first place win put me on top! Now to hold that position through four more games—which is not an easy thing to do, but that is the goal.
