E
ach week we track the 5 college hoop teams that I have determined will show a “positive return on investment” by season’s end. This year I have selected Cornell, Tennessee, Minnesota, Siena and UNLV.
The week started out on a positive note. However after going 2-1-2 on Saturday, the Pos 5 went downhill, or should I say “down court,” many times, turning the ball over along the way and more often than not they used a ball that was to big to fit in the basket. They did win 7 out of 10 games SU, but only went 3-5-2 ATS, reducing the season numbers to 54-42 AT. That’s still a profit of $1,560, based on $220 wagered per game.
The 5 again have 10 games this coming VCO week, starting tonight with the 20-3 Cornell Big Red at Penn. The Big Red, 22nd in the Coach’s Poll are led by senior forwards Ryan Wittman (third leading scorer in the Ivy League) and Brian Grimes.
Also playing tonight is the Pos 5’s other 20 game winner, the Siena Saints (21-4). The Saints are leading their league’s standings as well as boasting the leaders in scoring, rebounding and assists.Tomorrow (Saturday) the 23rd ranked UNLV Rebels (19-5), led by 6-4 senior Tre’von Willis, visit San Diego St. The Rebs will try to come back from a 10-point home loss to New Mexico.
On national TV tomorrow, our Tennessee Vols take on #1 Kentucky (23-1) in their home barn. The Wildcats are undefeated at home this year, but the Vols did defeat the then #1 Kansas Jayhawks in Kansas earlier this season, so, who knows.
St. Mary’s, who were in the process of getting blown out by Gonzaga at press time last night, will take on Portland as a road favorite on Saturday. The Gaels managed a spread push (minus 16) vs. USF and last night’s loss to the Zags last week.Cornell rounds out the Pos 5’s Saturday at Princeton, doing a back-to-back night, day double header.
The remaining four Pos 5 teams play one game each, Sunday thru Thursday.
Nine of next week’s ten games are on the road. The only Pos 5 team that will enjoy the confines of home is Tenn. who plays host to Georgia on Wednesday.
We need to go undefeated ATS next week, to get back to 60%. It can be done,
So here’s hoping for nothing but net...
