E
ach week we track the 5 college hoop teams that I have determined will show a “positive return on investment” by season’s end. This year I have selected Cornell, Tennessee, St. Mary’s, Siena and UNLV.
Well it’s all most over, the regular conference games for the Pos 5, that is. Only 4 games remain for three members of the “5,” 2 for UNLV, 2 for the Big Red of Cornell and 1 for Tennessee…all to be played tomorrow and Sunday. Then next week the conference finals began. It looks like all the Pos 5 members Siena, St. Mary’s, UVLV, Cornell and Tennessee will move on to either the NIT or the NCAAs...better known as “The Big Dance.” Hopefully one or two members will survive to April. We of course hope for win after win, because it will be one loss and you’re out in the post season. More importantly we hope for an ATS win in each game...
Last week the Pos 5 went 8-0 SU, but only 3-5 ATS, bringing the season numbers to 98-60 SU and 63-57 ATS.Tenn won both of their games, one vs. #2 Kentucky. The Vols play their final game tomorrow, then its on to the SEC tourney.
Ivy League champs Cornell also won twice, but failed to cover in either game, one by 20 pts over Penn, but missed the spread by 1/2 a point. They close out the regular season tonight and tomorrow.
Siena closed out their regular season as MAAC champs. In one game last week, the Saints were heavenly against Marist, winning by 25, but wound up in Purgatory, as they were a 26 1/2 pt. fav...UNLV won their only game, both SU and ATS. They close out their season tomorrow before they host the Mountain West finals—next week at Thomas & Mack.
St. Marys finished the regular season with a win, but not where it counted...losing ATS vs. Loyola-Marymount.
It’s March, my favorite time of the year, (what with baseball’s spring training, the change in the weather, my birthday and March Madness) and I feel confident.
Here’s hoping for nothing but net...
