NBA Veteran Ricky Sobers Hosting Basketball Clinic
Recreational Clinic Provides Skills Development, Mentorship for Kids
 March 8, 2010 – Henderson, NV – Runnin’ Rebel All-American basketball player and 11-year NBA veteran Ricky Sobers is hosting a basketball shooting clinic at the Henderson Multigenerational Center, 250 S. Green Valley Pkwy., from 3:00 to 4:30 p.m. on Saturdays and Sundays from March 27 through May 15. The program is designed to help youth and teens (ages 7–17) improve their basketball shooting skills. Participation is $135 per young athlete, and registration can be made at cityofhenderson.com (activity 62110-24) or at any City of Henderson recreation center. Space is limited. The program is sponsored by the City of Henderson Parks and Recreation Department.
The program is an instructional basketball shooting clinic and is designed to take each participant to the next level in their development. Under the guidance of Sobers, youth and teens can expect a high level of instruction, training and mentorship to achieve results.
“From a basketball purist standpoint, I enjoy working with kids and seeing their skill level improve. Also, I help them gain a better understanding of what the sports development pathway is like,” said Sobers. “Kids nowadays need stronger mentoring, but many don’t have that. I enjoy being a part of the personal development and success training of kids and teens in our community.”
Sobers first gained national attention as an All-American basketball player at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas (UNLV). Although he only played for the Runnin’ Rebels for two years, Sobers’ impact was strong enough that his number 40 jersey was retired in 2004. He went on to the NBA, playing for the Phoenix Suns, Chicago Bulls, Washington Bullets, and Seattle SuperSonics. Today, he is a fitness trainer and sports performance coach certified by the National Academy of Sports Medicine and the United States of America Triathlon.
