Wasted Days And Wasted Nights

t seems that I have shared with you folks many new experiences since I started this column on VCO. I feel as though you are an audience within reach of my arm—right to the tip of my sculptured french nail...there you are!!
Well, here’s another new experience. Just put my dad in a nursing home. Not a  pleasant thing to go through especially when you realize that your parents haven’t planned for this day. What in the hell is the matter with people??
Guess we can’t all be as lucky as my dear friend and fellow performer, Marjorie Moore who went in her sleep at 82 and was found with a smile on her face. Geez! She never even had a cramp or a vaginal infection. What a lucky gal!!
Folks…if I can give you but one piece of really good advice while doing this column, it would be to please make plans for the “home”...it’s not something that’s pleasant to think about, but believe me, when the time comes, you and your family will be grateful for your consideration and planning.
These “homes” are expensive if you don’t qualify for Medicaid and wouldn’t we all really rather put those big bucks toward several nights at the Ritz Carlton and let’s not forget the spa...oh, would I love a massage right now!! And, how about a European cruise? Could do it all for what it cost for just one month in a nursing home...it’s outrageously expensive.
Folks it’s never pleasant to come to the crossroads of life and realize that we have wasted days and nights by not planning. Playing Scarlett O’Hara or putting one’s head in the sand will only give temporary relief...you must think of the issue of long-term nursing home or in-home care TODAY, unless you are 16 years old and on your way to cheerleader camp. Otherwise, there are no excuses!!
On a positive note...don’t forget that we are about to have two wonderful festivals in New Orleans...French Quarter Fest and Jazz Fest....hope to see you in the big easy !!! Kisses, Gen
