E
ach week we track the 5 college hoop teams that I have determined will show a “positive return on investment” by season’s end. This year I have selected Cornell, Tennessee, St. Mary’s, Siena and UNLV.

They all got invited to the “Big Dance,” the NCAAs that is...UNLV, St. Mary’s, Tennessee,Siena and Cornell are/were all hoping to win six more games (in a row of course).
By press time last night, UNLV had already been sent home to watch the rest of March Madness on TV after losing a close, exciting game to Northern Iowa. Northern Iowa now takes on #1 seed Kansas (ouch!) assuming the Jay Hawks can “woop” #15 seed Lehigh. They are going at it as I write this...In an earlier game, the Pos 5’s St. Marys Gaels downed the Richmond Spiders, 80-71 to advance. (5 more games to go!) Bad boy Omar Samhan put up 29 points and 12 boards. The Gaels next opponent will be the #2 Villanova Wildcats, who barley got by upstart Robert Morris (who?) 73-70 in overtime.
Tenn: also playing as I type (hunt & peck!) is leading at half time in their first round game.
Pos 5 member, Cornell, after being off for two weeks (the Ivy League does not have a post season tournament) takes on the Temple Owls as a 3½ pt. dog
Our final member, the Saints of Siena oppose the Purdue Boilermakers tomorrow.
Wouldn’t it be something if two of the Pos 5 meet each other on the way to the finals? It could happen on March 25th–26th . Siena and St. Marys’s could reach Houston on those dates. Two of our original members, Minnesota and Cal. are also in the tourney.
We wish each team well and it would be a feather in the Pos 5 cap, if one of them even reach the “sweet 16.”
Wishing them and us “nothing but net” till next week.
