Free Workshops Offered at
Acacia Demonstration Gardens May 1

March 31, 2010 – Henderson, NV – The City of Henderson Parks and Recreation Department is hosting two free outdoor gardening workshops on Saturday, May 1, at Acacia Demonstration Gardens, located at 50 Casa Del Fuego St.

Ask A Master Gardener will be held from 9 a.m. to 10:30 a.m., and is open to those ages 16 and up. Register online at cityofhenderson.com (activity 141000-90) or at any City of Henderson recreation center. A Master Gardener will be on hand to answer residents’ most challenging home gardening questions, from proper plant selection and care to irrigation and vegetable gardening.

Acacia Tree Tour will be held from 9 a.m. to 10 a.m., and is open to participants ages 14 and up. Register online at cityofhenderson.com (activity 141031-90) or at any City of Henderson recreation center. The Parks and Recreation Department’s urban forester will lead participants on a guided tour of more than 45 species of trees at Acacia. The trees are planted in such a way so visitors can see each tree’s true size, shape, and form, which will help them select appropriate trees for their home landscaping. The tour will include tree identification tips and unique facts about various species.

Henderson Hosting Free Major League Baseball Pitch,
Hit & Run Competition April 3

March 31, 2010 – Henderson, NV – The City of Henderson Parks and Recreation is hosting the Aquafina Major League Baseball (MLB) Pitch, Hit & Run Competition from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday, April 3, at Morrell Park, 500 Harris St. The free event is open to youth ages 7–14. Each participant must bring a copy of their birth certificate and sign a registration/waiver form prior to the start of the competition.

Pitch, Hit & Run is the official skills competition of Major League Baseball. The program is designed to provide youth an opportunity to take part in a competition that recognizes individual excellence in core baseball/softball skills. Players are grouped into four age divisions (ages 7–8, 9–10, 11–12, and 13–14) and may advance through four levels of competition, including team championships at Major League ballparks and the national finals at the 2010 MLB All-Star Game.

Individual pitching, hitting and running champions, along with an all-around champion in each age group, will be awarded and advance to the sectional level of competition.
