Senator Amodei served in the Nevada Assembly from 1996 to 1998 and in the Nevada State Senate from 1999 to 2010, where he also served as President Pro Tem of the Senate. As part of his legislative service, Mark has served on the Public Land Committee, the Tahoe Regional Planning Agency Legislative Oversight Committee, and the Legislature’s Western Regional Water Commission Oversight Committee.“Mark Amodei is a Nevada native with strong ties to our precious natural resources,” Governor Gibbons said, “His in-depth knowledge and hands-on experience with public lands and water resource issues will be an asset to the Colorado River Commission.”
“Voter enacted term limits are just beginning to have a great impact on public policy and the legislative process in Nevada,” Amodei said, “I look forward to providing institutional knowledge and continuity to water policy in Nevada by serving on the Commission.”
Senator Amodei’s appointment is effective upon his resignation from the Nevada State Senate, expected tomorrow.
The Colorado River Commission of Nevada serves the communities of the State by responsibly managing and protecting our Colorado River water and power resources.
April 20, 2010 – Carson City, NV – Governor Jim Gibbons today announced the Constitution Defense Fund has surpassed its goal of $3,500 to fund filing fees and other legal costs associated with a lawsuit to fight the newly passed federal health care legislation.
“I am pleased to see that our fund has reached its goal less than two weeks after its establishment,” Gibbon said. “We are proceeding with our legal work and plan to file appropriate documents with the court by mid-May.”
Governor Jim Gibbons appointed Special Counsel Mark Hutchison to lead Nevada’s legal challenge over the constitutionality of the bill. Hutchison and several other attorneys are working without compensation to assist Governor Gibbons in this fight. Subsequently, numerous inquiries from citizens were received wishing to assist in the Governor’s fight against the Reid/Pelosi/Obama Health Care Plan. The Constitutional Defense Fund currently has a balance of $3,825. Any future donations to the Constitutional Defense Fund will be deposited and held in trust in case there are any unanticipated costs of the lawsuit. Should that not happen, the funds will be returned to the donors who contributed after the initial $3,500 goal was met.
Governor Gibbons also reiterated his stand that the Reid/Pelosi/Obama Health Care Plan is an insult to all Nevada citizens because it tramples the U.S. Constitution by requiring all citizens to purchase health insurance. “The Constitution says the rights not expressly delegated to the Federal government are reserved to the individual states and to the people,” Gibbons said. “We need to stop this encroachment on our individual rights as citizens now, before any further mandates which dictate personal freedom and choices are enacted.”

State Energy Director Launches
Nevada Energy Economy Strike Force
April 16, 2010 – Carson City, NV – According to Nevada State Office of Energy (“NSOE”) Director Jim Groth, several major renewable energy development companies worth billions of dollars in potential annual revenue and key exponential tax base have chosen to locate their facilities in Nevada’s neighboring states in the past ten months.
For this reason, a Nevada Energy Economic Strike Force team met for the first time Wednesday in Carson City to help remove barriers holding back renewable energy development and make Nevada more attractive to these companies.
The informal group, consisting of public employees, private sector energy experts, consultants, utility representatives, educators and energy efficiency experts, will meet regularly to execute a plan of attack to successfully develop Nevada’s energy economy. Teams are being formed to quickly tackle different areas including transmission, permitting, funding sources, regulatory structure, energy efficiency, outreach, land issues and more.
“The Strike Force will address renewable energy issues and solve bottlenecks,” Groth said. “Nevada has an overwhelming abundance of natural resources, the technological knowhow and certainly the immense brain trust to develop and operate a renewable energy economy that can help deliver our state out of the recession. We just want to help connect the dots.”
As part of this effort, Groth released Nevada’s Energy Economy Declaration, a document that describes the federal land ownership situation in Nevada and puts forth ideas that could potentially correct Nevada’s economic distress and related debt, educational, housing and employment woes.
Groth highlights several initiatives to help expedite this process including putting more land under state control and updating Nevada’s Renewable Portfolio Standard more frequently.
“It will simply take us Nevadans standing at the precipice, the cliff edge if you will, declaring we’re mad as heck at our current situation and we’re not going to take it anymore,” Groth added. “I am convinced that once harnessed, Nevadans can quickly move forward with such strength that the inertia created will drive Nevada to unstoppable success and straight out of the recession.”
