Gibbons Administration Implementing
SAGE Commission Recommendations
April 30, 2010 – Carson City, NV – Governor Jim Gibbons today commended the Spending and Government Efficiency Commission (SAGE) for its hard work and efforts to review Executive Branch operations and evaluate solutions for efficiencies. Just four months after completion of the SAGE Commission’s work, 27 of the 44 recommendations have been either fully or partially implemented.
“Under the direction of Chairman Bruce James, the SAGE Commission came up with solid recommendations and ideas to save public funds and make Nevada government run more efficiently,” Gibbons said, “I am happy to report we are diligently working to implement the SAGE recommendations and saving Nevada taxpayers considerable dollars in the process.”
Of the 44 SAGE Commission recommendations, 8 have already been fully implemented and another 19 are in progress or planned for implementation after statutory changes in the 2011 legislative session. The remaining recommendations are either long term implementation projects, are on hold pending available startup revenue or, in a few instances, have been ruled out after further review.
“The thoughtful work of the SAGE Commission is invaluable to my staff as we continue to work on ways to make Nevada government smaller, smarter and more efficient. My daily goals are to get Nevadans back to work and to make government less burdensome on our economic recovery,” Gibbons said.
The SAGE Commission was created by Executive Order of Governor Gibbons on May 7, 2008 and held its final meeting December 10, 2009. The Commission was created to review state government operations that fall under the Executive Branch and to provide the Governor with recommendations for streamlining operations, improving customer service and maximizing the use of taxpayer dollars.
