You Can’t Give Away Jay Leno Tickets

L
Couldn't give them awayast Saturday night I had two comp tickets for Jay Leno at The Mirage. I called around, and I couldn’t get anyone to go out at 10:00 p.m., it was too late, or there was a good show on TV. With one extra ticket, I walked around outside the showroom offering strangers a FREE Jay Leno ticket. No one, absolutely no one would take the free ticket. Maybe people were afraid I was a “Ticket Terrorist.” A woman walked up and asked if I could help her, she couldn’t give away her TWO FREE tickets. With the show starting, and no time left, we did find an old couple that would take her tickets. However, I went in show with both of my free tickets.

Lots of empty seatsShould you pay to see Jay Leno or watch his old monologues on HULU.com? It’s a trick question, because with both, you see and hear the same old stuff. If you’re a regular viewer of The Tonight Show you will recognize the jokes from previous years. He did George Bush jokes as if he was still President. He did Bill Clinton intern jokes, circa 1998. He did Iraqi jokes, and one was about the 2004 Abu Graib prison scandal. He did airline jokes, including one about American West Airlines; they have been out of business since 2005. You could call his hour and a half stand up act “The Best of The Tonight Show monologues.”

The Jay Leno ATOMIC SOLAR GrillJay Leno told the audience he just turned 60 years old. Maybe he’s living in a time warp, his jokes were funny the first time around, but he needs new stuff. It’s not enough just to SEE Jay Leno you want to laugh too.

Jay Leno always seemed like a nice guy, but he just doesn’t have the style and class of a Johnny Carson. Considering the recent Conan O’Brien business, I think it will take dynamite to blast Jay Leno off television or The Mirage stage. He will never leave us, thirty years from now in the year 2040, Jay Leno will be 90 years old. He will still have a late night TV show, now on ALL the cable channels, endlessly performing his old stand-up jokes and selling “The Jay Leno ATOMIC SOLAR Grill.”
