A
lovely afternoon event was experienced by members and guests of the NEVADA OPERA THEATRE GUILD’s INTERNATIONAL FRIENDSHIP LUNCHEON at CILI in the Bali Hai Golf Club. The Nevada Opera Theatre Guild is a major sponsor for the main stage productions and the scholarship that is presented each year to a UNLV Vocal Major student within the Music Department. Each year The Nevada Opera Theatre Guild hosts several events that have become a tradition. They are: Opera Gala, International Friendship Luncheon, Patron Receptions, Holiday High Teas and Holiday Celebration Luncheon.
A hosted reception started the event along with a Silent Auction. Guests enjoyed mingling with friends and shopping at the silent auction. (I always find a great buy while supporting Nevada Opera at Silent Auctions, and once again I did at this event.)
As this was an International Friendship Luncheon, the tables were each decorated with an individual Country’s indigenous décor.
The winning table décor was an Asian motif sponsored by Joan Dimmitt.
Paula Francis, News Anchorwoman on Channel 8 television did an excellent job as Emcee. Paula introduced General Director of the Nevada Opera Theatre Eileen Hayes. Then Las Vegas City Councilman Stavros Anthony was introduced and spoke about the upcoming Nevada Opera’s 25th Anniversary Season. Karen Scherer, Chairman of the Nevada Opera Theatre Guild and Joan Dimmitt, Chairman of the Divas and Divos of the Nevada Opera Theatre were next introduced. Others who were introduced and spoke were: Myron Heaton, Director of the Myron Heaton Chorale, Terry Jones and Rick Johnson of The Smith Center For The Performing Arts, Drew Didzik and Tania Thompson, Nevada State Bank and Dr. Jonathan Good, Chairman of UNLV Music Department.

A delicious luncheon was served consisting of:
First Course: Heirloom Tomato & Fresh Mozzarella, Basil, Baby Greens and Balsamic Reduction with Fresh Baked Breads and Pineapple Butter
The Entrée: Seared Scottish Salmon with Fresh Herb Risotto, Snap Pea and Roasted Red Pepper Coulis
Dessert: Chocolate Decadence with Strawberries, Fresh Whipped Cream and Chocolate Shavings.
During luncheon wonderful Operatic Soloists performed to the delight of the attendees. They were: Shelley Martinson, Soprano; Michelle Thelen, Soprano; Stephen Plummer, Tenor; Michael Elliot, Baritone and Dr. Morton I. Hyson, Bass (he can sing and hold low notes beautifully like no one else can)

And…

This concluded a delightful afternoon at a charming venue for a most worthwhile cause.
