Smash Sizzle Savor

smashburger

O
ne of the BEST burgers is here in Southern Nevada and that is smashburger, now open with two locations. Yes, they are located on the west side, in the northwest (southwest corner of Lake Mead Boulevard and Buffalo) and southwest (southeast corner of Sahara and Ft. Apache), but no matter where you live, it is so worth the trip.

Let’s start with the burgers. Real burgers. The kind your grandmother or mother used to make. They used quality ground beef, maybe adding some bread crumbs (at least my mother used to do that), rolled the meat in a ball, put that ball of meat in a hot frying pan and smashed it with a spatula. Then that burger was seasoned while sizzling in the pan and it was big, juicy and so full of flavor. Yes, those kinds of burgers.

smashburger does just that, starting with 100% Angus Beef, either 1/3 or 1/2 pound, smashed, seared and seasoned on the grill, placed on a butter-toasted artisan bun and topped with real cheese, freshest produce and condiments. You can choose a classic burger or one of their specialties. My personal favorite is the Sin City Burger. This is their fabulous burger topped with a fried egg, applewood-smoked bacon, American cheese, grilled onions, haystack onions, smash sauce served on an egg bun. Other choices include Spicy Baja and All American.

Next, to complete your meal, you have to order one of their sides to go with the burger. smashfries are crispy fries seasoned with garlic, olive oil and rosemary or you can order the sweet potato smashfries with the same seasoning, just a different flavor. Their Veggie Frites are seasoned asparagus spears, carrot sticks and green beans. There is the deep-fried dill pickles served with ranch dressing

If you’re not in the mood for a burger, they offer smashchicken, a chicken breast smash, seared and seasoned. Then there is the smashdog, 100% Angus beef hotdogs, split and seared to order.

And for those who insist on eating healthy (don’t look in my direction) smashsalads are available with choices like Cobb Salad, the smashwedge and the All Nighter.

Back to my favorite—shakes and malts—made with REAL Häagen-Dazs ice cream in vanilla, chocolate, strawberry and caramel. Another treat is their root beer float in a frosty mug.

For adults, beer and wine is offered and for soda, Coke products are served!

Here is the best thing—the prices! Yes, their prices. Their burgers are priced ranging from $4.99 to $6.99. Add a side and the price is an extra $1.49 to $2.99 depending on what you order. Everything is so reasonably priced, the portions are huge and it is a fun, family-friendly atmosphere without that “fast-food” feel.
