rom the very beautiful invitations to the very attractive booklet at the event, The Las Vegas Heart Ball outdid itself at their annual Ball. The delightful evening event started in the lovely Tuscan inspired Florentine Gardens at the RITZ CARLTON HOTEL at Lake Las Vegas (now closed). Lavishly dressed guests partook of libations and a Silent Auction while enjoying the beautiful voices of the Nevada Opera Chorus as they gathered to meet and greet each other.

Afterwards guests entered the Grand Ballroom where dinner was to be served. And what a dinner it was that was served at exquisite table settings. To cleanse the palate, Intermezzo—Limoncello Sorbet. Then came Pranzo (Entrée) Roasted Tenderloin of Beef and Scampi on Risotto Cake, Natural Jus and to complete the beautifully presented dinner was Dolce (Dessert) Pistachio Cake, Prosecco Zabayon, Lemon Cream and Fresh Berries paired with Limoncello Apertifo.
GUESTS AT DINNER...

Not only was the dinner exceptional, but so was the service. And now, unfortunately, there is no longer a RITZ CARLTON HOTEL in Southern Nevada.
Fun, frolic and seriousness were all part of the evening’s event.

A live auction by a very humorous auctioneer Christian Kolberg brought in a substantial amount of money. Surprisingly, although we are in an economic downturn, the attendees were very generous for this very worthwhile cause. A Head French Waiter and then two other waiters came onstage to give some messages to the audience. However, they turned out to be very funny fantastic singers who sang a collection of Operatic musical numbers in French and Italian. They continued on to sing more contemporary music that included having the audience waving their napkins over their heads to the rhythm of Elvis’s “It’s Now or Never.” The audience loved them.

This year’s Heart Ball Honorees were: THE LINCY FOUNDATION, Dr. SCOTT L. SELCO M.d.,Ph.D—Board Certified Neurologist and Dr. BERGE J. DADOURIAN, M.D., FACC, FSCAI—Board Certified Cardiologist. They were honored for their dedication to improving the systems of care for stroke and cardiac patients that has saved the lives of many who would not have otherwise survived.
THE LINCY FOUNDATION was formed by Kirk Kerkorian in 1989 in response to the devastating earthquake in Spitak, Armenia. 25,000 people lost their lives in that earthquake when two major cities and 100 villages were completely destroyed. The substantial contributions from the newly formed LINCY FOUNDATION provided housing to thousands of displaced individuals and families and reconstruction of roads and other key infrastructures.
During the 20 years since its founding, THE LINCY FOUNDATION has provided financial gifts to humanitarian efforts of numerous U.S. charities, while continuing to provide support to Armenia. Funding of THE LINCY FOUNDATION is provided solely by Kirk Kerkorian’s company, Tracinda Corporation. Both Tracinda and THE LINCY FOUNDATION are named for his daughters, Tracy and Linda.
Dr. SCOTT L. SELCO completed his undergraduate work at California State University, Northridge (where I also did my undergraduate work and I taught there too). He obtained M.D. and Ph.D degrees through the University of Illinois College of Medicine and Medical Scholars Program from Urbana-Champaign, Illinois. He completed medical and neurology residency at Los Angeles County University of Southern California Medical Center and was chief resident in Neurology 2002–2003. Dr. SELCO then completed fellowship training in stroke and cerebrovascular diseases at the UCLA Stroke Center in 2004. He accepted the position of Medical Director of Stroke Care at the Nevada Neurosciences Institute at Sunrise Hospital Stroke Center in January 2005. Under his tutelage Sunrise Hospital received Joint Commission Primary Stroke Center certification and recertification.Dr. SELCO is a board certified general Neurologist and a Board Certified Vascular Neurologist. He is a full-time practicing Neurohospitalist. His primary clinical interests are acute Stroke care, Telestroke, experimental Stroke treatment, Neurocritical care and the development of systems of care for Stroke.
Dr. DADOURIAN has served as President of the Las Vegas Valley Division of the American Heart Association. He has received numerous awards as well as Governor of the American College of Cardiology. He has served as Chairman of the Department of Medicine, as a member of the Medical Executive Committee, and as Director of the Coronary Care Unit and Congestive Heart Failure Program at Sunrise Hospital. He is currently serving as a Member of the Board of Trustees of Sunrise Hospital. Dr. DADOURIAN practices general cardiology with special interests in Interventional Cardiology and Peripheral Arterial Disease.Much was spoken by the Honorees about the progress that is being made to save lives by improving the systems of care for STEMI heart attack patients. ST-Elevation Myocardial Infarction (STEMI) is the deadliest type of heart attack in which blood flow is completely blocked to a portion of the heart. Unless the blockage is eliminated quickly, the patient’s health and life are at serious risk.
Videos were shown of the important work that is being done in this field. Former STEMI patients that were saved by the work that is being done were called upon to speak.
There was much more to enjoy as dancing continued after dinner and then an After Party celebration was hosted in The Firenze Lounge. Delicious pastry, assorted coffees such as Coffee Latte, Cappuccino, and Espresso with all the fixings were served while a pianist played beautiful music. I was completely full from the excellent dinner, but I sat with friends and we all could not resist the delectable After-Dinner desserts that kept coming our way.
