Titus Applauds Effort to Develop Cutting Edge Solar Technologies in Southern Nevada

July 8, 2010 – Henderson, NV – Congresswoman Dina Titus of Nevada’s Third District released the following statement today on the announcement that the Nevada Test Site will become home to the Solar Demonstration Zone.

“This effort to bring the research and development of cutting edge solar energy projects to Southern Nevada is a critical step toward turning the Silver State into a leader in a new clean energy economy. This type of development will bring important investments and jobs to our community. The Test Site’s selection over 25 competing sites is a testament to our commitment to invest in renewable energy and a reminder of how vital it is that we continue to lay the foundation for future projects in an increasingly competitive field. It is fitting that the Test Site, which was at the forefront of winning the Cold War, will once again assume a leadership position in the effort to build a clean energy future.”

Titus Statement on the Passing of Nevada State College President Fred Maryanski

July 2, 2010 – Washington, DC – Congresswoman Dina Titus of Nevada’s Third District released the following statement today on the passing of Dr. Fred Maryanski, President of Nevada State College.

“I was saddened to hear of the passing of Fred Maryanski after his courageous battle with cancer. Nevada has lost a dedicated educator who devoted his life to promoting higher education both in the classroom and in the community. Dr. Maryanski took the reins of Nevada State College at an important time in its early years, guiding it through a period of expansion as Nevada State College served a growing number of Southern Nevadans. During his tenure, Dr. Maryanski’s outstanding leadership was recognized numerous times by the community as he was named the 2006 Southern Nevada Person of Influence in Higher Education. My thoughts and prayers are with Dr. Maryanski’s family, friends, and the entire Nevada State College community during this sad time.”

Titus Applauds Creation of Housing Task Force

July 2, 2010 – Washington, DC – Congresswoman Dina Titus of Nevada’s Third District applauded the creation of the House Democratic Caucus’ new Task Force on Housing Stabilization, chaired by Representatives Shelley Berkley of Nevada and Dennis Cardoza of California. The task force will examine current efforts to address the foreclosure crisis to determine what more must be done.

“I am pleased to join my colleagues as a founding member of the Democratic Task Force on Housing Stabilization and I look forward to sharing what my office has learned in our efforts to help Nevada families avoid foreclosure,” Congresswoman Titus said. “As ground zero for the housing crisis, District Three has too many homeowners at risk of losing their home. That is why my office was one of the first in the country to stand up and fight on behalf of homeowners who had been ignored by their bank. As a result of these efforts, my staff and I have helped save hundreds of families from foreclosure and put nearly $6.5 million back in the pockets of Southern Nevadans through mortgage modifications. Working with members from other hard hit areas, we will continue to look for solutions to this devastating crisis that has shaken the foundation of our communities.”

The Housing Stabilization Task Force will focus its efforts on foreclosure mitigation, home valuation, lending programs, and real estate market stabilization. By bringing together members who represent districts with high foreclosures, the task force will create a renewed sense of urgency to put an end to the housing crisis.
