The organized program emphasizes teamwork, strategy, sportsmanship, and physical fitness.
“Flag football is an excellent way to get an intense workout that doesn’t feel like exercise at all,” said Ted Lockamon, Recreation Services supervisor, City of Henderson Parks and Recreation Department. “You can build strength, increase speed and improve hand/eye coordination while burning anywhere from 560 to 700 calories per hour. It’s a great way to stay fit.”

July 19, 2010 – Henderson, NV – The City of Henderson Parks and Recreation Department is hosting a “Name Our Puppy” contest through Aug. 30. The contest invites children and teens (Clark County residents ages 5-18 in grades K-12) to suggest a name for the oversized puppy structure located in the Bark Park at Heritage Park. The 5-acre Bark Park, which is located at Racetrack Road and Burkholder Boulevard, is set to open to the public this fall.
“The puppy structure is 6 feet tall and 18 feet long, and it has a place of importance in the new Bark Park,” said Kim Becker, Communications & Marketing supervisor, City of Henderson Parks and Recreation Department. “In planning and building the Bark Park, our staff members referred to the puppy by various names, and that’s when we decided he or she needed an official name. I’m sure a child in our community will come up with just the right name for this cute puppy. We’re already starting to receive some excellent submissions.”
Details about the Name Our Puppy contest are available at cityofhenderson.com, type “barkpark” in the search box. Entry forms may be printed online and are also available at City of Henderson recreation centers. Entries will be accepted via snail mail only. Once the puppy has a name (to be announced in early September), the Parks and Recreation Department will host a coloring contest to introduce the puppy and the Bark Park to the community. Prize packs will be awarded to the Name Our Puppy contest winner, and for coloring contest winners in various age categories. The coloring contest will launch in September at cityofhenderson.com. Businesses interested in co-sponsoring the contests may call 267-4000.
