A
new Mrs. Nevada-America, Susie Monahan, was crowned on July 18, 2010 at the Texas Hotel Casino in Las Vegas. Susie was crowned the winner after competing with 16 other delegates for the title. Susie Monahan is a Pharmacist and represents Mrs. Clark County. She will now compete in the Mrs. America title in September and if Susie wins that, then she will go to Korea to compete for the title of Mrs. World.

State Director Jackie McKenna made this night a reality for all the beautiful women of Nevada that participated in the pageant. They were willing to give of themselves to the community and charitable causes and showed what a positive role model women can be.
Jackie thanked her husband John, who is a co-director and photographer and who supports her unconditionally. [www.mrsnevadaamerica.com]

The distinguished panel of judges were Howard Jochsberger who served as Chairman of the Judges for the USA Pageant and the past two years for the Mrs. Nevada America Pageant; Tanja Brennan has been in many beauty pageants herself as Miss California and Miss World Celebrity—Tanja is the publisher of Stephens Media Group’s magazine division; Heidi Crawford Dinan, Mrs. America 2004 and was a judge in the Mrs. World 2005 pageant; Dr. Lane Smith is a board certified plastic surgeon and has a talk show on KLAV 1230 AM; Kathy Kubik has a company called MK2 Advertising and public relations—Kathy is a fine arts portrait artist and a recipient of the Distinguished Women of Nevada.

A section was reserved for the husbands of the contestants and they proudly sat and watched as their beautiful wives competed in their bathing suits and gowns.

There was also a contest for younger girls and the winners were Victoria Barnhart, Teen Princess; Kailey Boersma, Pre Teen; Britney Barnhart, Little Miss.

Jasmyne Densley won the talent competition performing a dance as Michael Jackson.

Brandy Viscaino, Mrs. Centennial Hills, was the first runner-up. Brandy said this was her first pageant and she was excited to have been in the pageant and has bonded with everyone.

Amanda Kouretas, Mrs. Red Rock, was the second runner up and also won an award for the most photogenic and the People’s Choice Award. This award was given by the donations that were made by the audience. Amanda deserved both awards as she clearly was my choice as a winner.

One of the last duties for the outgoing Mrs. Nevada-America, April Swartz was to crown Susie Monahan. April said it was an amazing year and she will miss the sister hood she formed with Jackie McKenna. April’s husband Paul said he will miss being Mr. Nevada-America when he gives up his crown. April has been an outstanding Mrs. Nevada-America as she made over 80 appearances for many charities and made an impact on many people. I asked April what she will do now to fill in her time and she said she wants to take up ballroom dancing. I immediately told her to send a tape in to “Dancing with the Stars” because she definitely would be great on that show.

The pageant brought back many memories from years ago when I won my first pageant “Mrs. Bergen County” Clubwoman of the Year Award. I love pageants.
