Back-To-School Events

August 5, 2010 – North Las Vegas, NV – The City of North Las Vegas is pleased to participate in the following back-to-school events, aimed at getting children off to the right start. Parents and their school-aged children are encouraged to attend.

Nevada Youth Alliance 12th Annual
Community Back-to-School Health/Education Fair

This event will be from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 14, at the College of Southern Nevada, Cheyenne Campus, 3200 E. Cheyenne Ave. The event will feature free school supplies while they last, free immunizations, dental checks, youth physicians, eye exam screening for youth and families and hair cuts. Families also will be able to learn about Nevada Check Up and Medicaid card uses/benefits, obtain health information and more.

For children under 18 to receive free school supplies or refreshments, they must be accompanied by a parent or adult guardian. Supplies are available for youths in first through 12th grade. Proof of age is required. Children must be present to receive school supplies.

Nevada National Guard Back-to-School Event
This event will be from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 14, at the Army National Guard, 6400 N. Range Road. North Las Vegas Police Department staff will participate with information and items to help children get ready for school.

Salvation Army Back-to-School Fair
This event will be from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 21, at the Salvation Army’s North Las Vegas Campus, 2828 E. Cheyenne Avenue, next to the College of Southern Nevada.

More than 800 youngsters are expected to attend. The City of North Las Vegas Fire and Police departments will participate with information and more. The event will provide youngsters with backpacks, school supplies and other items to help them prepare for the new school year.
