Parks and Recreation Department begins citywide park aeration
September 1, 2010 – North Las Vegas, NV – The City of North Las Vegas will temporarily close its two golf courses, Aliante Golf Club and Municipal Par 3, for annual fall and winter over seeding to improve the playing conditions during the winter months.
Aliante Golf Club
Aliante Golf Club, 3100 W. Elkhorn Drive, will be closed beginning Tuesday, Sept. 7 and will re-open on Saturday, Sept. 18. The snack bar will be closed, but the course pro shop will remain open during the over seeding process. The pro shop offers a full clothing line and golf accessories. Golfers can make tee time reservations by calling (702) 399-4888, between 8 a.m. and 4 p.m. seven days a week.
Municipal Par 3 Golf Course
Municipal Par 3 Golf Course, 324 E. Brooks Avenue, will be closed beginning Monday, Sept. 20 and will re-open for play on Monday, Oct. 4. The pro shop and snack bar will be closed during maintenance. Tee time reservations will be accepted Monday, Sept. 27 through Thursday, Sept. 30 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. For more information or to reserve a tee time, call (702) 633-1833, 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., Monday through Thursday.
Citywide Park Maintenance
City Parks and Recreation crews will begin aerating the soil in parks citywide beginning Monday, Sept. 6 through Friday, Sept. 24. Aeration is expected to minimize soil compaction and help turf growth. The process will create small plugs of grass and soil. For more information, call the City’s Park Services Division at (702) 633-1256. Office hours are from 5:30 a.m. to 3 p.m., Monday through Thursday.
September 1, 2010 – North Las Vegas, NV – As a result of reduced staffing, the North Las Vegas Library District this week announced reduced library hours for the North Las Vegas Library and Alexander Library, effective Monday, Sept. 13. Aliante Library, the City’s busiest branch, will keep its existing hours due to high usage and demand.

August 31, 2010 – North Las Vegas, NV – North Las Vegas Fire Chief Al H. Gillespie was sworn in as the First Vice President of the International Association of Fire Chiefs (IAFC) on August 28, 2010, in Chicago, IL. The position is progressive and next year he will be the president of this association. Last year, he served as the second vice president after being selected in an international election by his peers for the prestigious position. Chief Gillespie is a proven international leader, seen as both innovative and dynamic.
Chief Gillespie has served as the treasurer and vice chair for the Safety, Health and Survival Section of the IAFC, and participated in the association’s membership task force. He has served as a board member of the National Society of Executive Fire Officers and as the secretary/treasurer of that organization. He is on the NFPA Technical Committee for Fire Service Occupational Safety and Health as an alternate. Chief Gillespie has a strong labor/management background and has been a leader in developing working relationships based on teamwork between labor groups, including the International Association of Firefighters (IAFF) and American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees (AFSCME) and management. He has served as the chairman of the Washington State Fire Chief’s Labor Relations Committee.Chief Gillespie’s education and qualifications include a fellowship at the Kennedy School of Government at Harvard University, a bachelor’s of science in fire administration, two associate’s degrees, a management certificate and a certificate of completion of the Executive Fire Officer Program from the National Fire Academy. He is a designated Chief Fire Officer through the Center for Public Safety Excellence. Chief Gillespie is in his 34th year in fire service and has served the City of North Las Vegas for more than 5 years.
