WHAT WAS I THINKING?
I SHOULD HAVE known better, but I decided to return from a very short honeymoon trip to Los Angeles on a Friday night. What a nightmare. I usually like the drive between Las Vegas and LaLa Land, but I'll never do that again. EVER!
We had to drive because, a) it was a last minute decision to go in the first place; b) it's a lot cheaper than flying and renting a car, etc; and c) we had to take Frosty and Snowman (our four-legged canine children) and my lovely bride Charlene is a retired flight attendant who will not put animals in an airplane cargo bay. For the record, I won't either.
We left Malibu at 3:45. I expected some slowdowns until we got to say Pomona perhaps, but did I ever get a reality check. It was stop and go from the ocean to Victorville and I'm not exaggerating. And guess what? It wasn't the dreaded "Get to Vegas on Friday Night Rush" we hear about, it was 95% commuters. People are working in Los Angeles and living 100 miles away from their jobs, A LOT of people are doing that.
The moral of the story: We don't have it so bad here, even if the traffic slows down from time to time. We actually have it pretty good, very good, actually.
I hear people complain about Las Vegas traffic all the time. "It's gridlock," or "It's not like it used to be," or the ever-popular "traffic just sucks." Nope, not after what I went through the other night. Consider why traffic is irritating around here. Most of it is because of construction that will eventually make it better to drive roads around the Valley. Sure, there are trouble spots that can make for slow going for 510 minutes, but compare that to the 8 hours it took me to drive what's designed to be a 4 1/2 hour trip. And that's happening every day to the west. We should count our blessings that our traffic isn't nearly as bad as it could be
not even close.
Now, if only we can get the construction guys to build us an ocean
