A Remarkably Funny Must See !!

If you want to laugh your ass off, you have to see Avenue Q at Wynn Las Vegas. Now normally I don’t swear in my reviews, but if you’re going to see Avenue Q, be prepared! There is profanity in the dialog and in the songs. This is not your grandchild’s Sesame Street, so don’t bring them (the show is definitely for adults only, in my opinion) and if your mother-in-law is a bit prudish, don’t bring her either, with that being said...

Avenue Q is an incredibly well written, clever and very funny musical that explores the topics of sex, homosexuality, pornography, bigotry, prostitution and more. The performers are an interesting integration of puppets, puppeteers and people (something I have never seen before) The integration makes for an unusual production. Funny thing though, and I can’t emphasize this enough, seeing the puppeteers does not distract from the production and in some instances it's even helpful. At times two puppeteers work one puppet and at other times one puppeteer does the voice of more than one puppet. Sound confusing ? It’s not, anything but, I might add, since I was lucky enough to watch Sesame Street with my grandson and being acquainted with Jim Henson’s Muppets, I was taken back a bit to see and hear those lovable “Muppet type” puppets swear and even engage in various sexual acts on stage. Yet, all the characters are so endearing in their own way, it is difficult to choose a favorite one, but you will.

Avenue Q is about a group of people that live on a street in New York City called Avenue Q that occupy an old funky looking brownstone, where the Super (New York slang for property manager) is the TV sitcom cast off  “ Gary Coleman.” The way the character of “Gary Coleman” was integrated into the script was very interesting and incredibly funny. The main character is a bright eyed recent college grad named Princeton, who arrives in New York with big dreams but a small bankroll.

Other characters range from an Oriental girl named “Christmas Eve” to a couple of monster puppets, to two gay puppets, that for the most part don’t even realize that they are gay during most of the play, to singing boxes.

The clever and catchy score that include such songs as “ Its Sucks To Be Me,”  “Everyone’s a Little Bit Racist,”  "If You Were Gay” and “The Internet is for Porn” will keep you rolling in the aisles throughout

The talking and singing voices of the cast were very well chosen. The talented ensemble is on a par with Broadway, from were Avenue Q also is running, with several Tony awards under it’s belt, but then, what else would you expect from Steve Wynn... only the best, (just look at the properties he has opened and his wonderful art collection) that is exactly what you get with Avenue Q.

Avenue Q is a remarkably funny MUST SEE production. Like a lot of shows on the Strip, Avenue Q's tickets are a bit pricey (around $100) but save your pennies and treat yourself to an evening of continuous laughter, it will be well worth it.
