A Unique Charitable Benefit for the Center
for Independent Living
Saturday, April 8, 2006
This is not just your ordinary Hat Luncheon........ quite the contraire!
You just won't believe what these ladies will put on their heads! From
elegant Hats to the most outrageous hats you'll ever see......and all for
a local charity!
The 6th Annual Ladies Luncheon & Fancy Hat Extravaganza" is here once
again! Each year ladies go all out! No holds barred, they can get as
outrageous as they want with their hat creations - and believe me, they
do! You laugh from the time you arrive until the time you leave - and
this certainly breaks all the ice for introductions!
This event also includes a contest with categories such as' Most Original,
Most Ornate, Best theme, Most Creative, Most Elegant, Most humorous, Most
Authentic, Most Outrageous, Most Silly and Most Imaginative and now some
ladies are even wearing cloths to match their theme hats. Last year one
of the contest winners had an enormous taco on her hat and it played the
Mexican Hat Dance. Another hat featured an entire picnic, including the
black and red ants - of course! And can you imagine some ladies saying
they don't look good in a hat! You won't find any of them here at this
event! Anything goes! This is definitely a charity event where you can
just let your creative juices run wild!
Each year, this event also features a charitable benefit for The Center
for Independent Living, a 501 (c) (3) non-profit organization, that opened
in July of 1994 as a charitable residential and day treatment facility.
The majority of the children living at The Center are teenagers who come
from homes where they have been beaten and denigrated, physically and
mentally abused, raped and tortured. These young people usually have
nowhere to go, no one to turn to. The Center works tirelessly to try to
make a difference in the lives of these young people, person to person,
day by day. It is not an easy task, making a difference in the life of a
young person who has been hardened by experiences no one should ever
know. Not easy to do, but impossible to ignore!
Needless to say, The Social Register's annual luncheon has garnered quite
a lot of attention over the past 6 years. Comedian Rita Rudner and
Nevada's First Lady, Dema Guinn, have both participated in prior
luncheons, and this outrageous event has even been filmed by the Discovery
Channel and aired as part of the National cable channel's " Casino
Diaries" segments. For additional information on the 2006 Ladies Luncheon
