C.J. Cansler – America’s beloved photographer passes on

On, Tuesday November 21st, 2006 this reporter received a phone call from Dr. Kathleen Cansler informing me of her husband’s death. It was not only a shocking realization that my dear friend was no longer going to be around but that many people who relied on his advice and photos would be at a loss.

C.J. Cansler one of America’s beloved photographer’s was known throughout the world for his precise photography; capturing some of the greatest moments in boxing, various sporting events and celebrity events. He was a professor of photography at the Clark County Community College and was hailed as the most innovative instructor in photography classes. Mr. Cansler photographed such notables as Bruce Willis, Demi Moore, Wesley Snipes, Eddie Murphy, Dennis Rodman, Petey Pablo, Snoop Dogg, Destiny Child, Anthony Quinn, George Wallace and hundreds of sporting and celebrity events.

News outlets such as Las Vegas Tribune, Las Vegas Sentinel, Los Angeles Sentinel, Xclusive Magazine, Urban Avenue Magazine, among numerous others, boxing sites such as www.InsideFighting.com, www.EastsideBoxing.com, www.7zero2events.com, along with www.lasvegas.net, www.vegascommunityonline.com  used Mr. Cansler photos every week. CJ brought out the magic in everyone he photographed.

“He was inspirational, humble and taught us so much,” said Vanessa McConnell a close associate and friend. Most importantly CJ Cansler was a friend to everyone and to me he was my best friend. He always watched my back in life and gave me tough love on how to be successful as a human being and a journalist. He most assuredly will be missed, but his spirit and photography will live on. CJ Cansler is survived by his wife Dr. Kathleen Cansler and daughter Alicia.

Vegas Film and Television Productions up for 2006

There is no question as to Nevada’s popularity with the motion picture industry. In 2005 NFO channeled revenues exceeding $100 million into the State of Nevada’s with more than 650 productions of all kinds. In 2006 Nevada surpassed the $100 million dollar mark by 15 million which included television production as well. Areas of filming which are very attractive include Nevada’s back country on the white playa of the Black Rock Dessert. There is historic mining town’s such as Virginia City and San Mountain., a 600 foot high two mile long white sand dune outside Fallon, which is open two four wheel vehicles. Other areas include Red Rock which includes a 12 mile scenic route where many commercials are made. Other popular locations would include the filming of the Colorado River and Lake Mead surrounded by richly colored sandstone throughout Southern Nevada. Nevada interestingly enough has 14 raceways, 54 public airfields and 48 million acres of rugged off-road terrain, that plays host to the most thrilling and invigorating race action found anywhere in America.
