Governor-elect Jim Gibbons has announced that three of Nevada’s most respected leaders will lead his bipartisan transition team.  Nevada Lieutenant Governor Lorraine Hunt, former U.S. Senator and Governor Richard Bryan and former Governor and Attorney General Robert List will serve as co-chairs of the team.  Las Vegas businessman Monte Miller and northern Nevada businesswoman Patty Wade will be co-directors.

“I’m honored to assist Governor-Elect Gibbons as part of his transition team,” said Bryan.  “The election is over.  Regardless of our political affiliation, as Nevadans we should do all we can to enable the governor-elect to meet his obligations to all citizens of the state.  I applaud this bipartisan approach.

“This is a critical step for an incoming governor and his administration,” said List.  “Jim is putting together a first-rate team to set the tone for the next four years.  I'm pleased to be part of the leadership of this important endeavor."

“This is an important time for Nevada,” stated Hunt.  “A new governor sets a new course for the state.  I’m glad Jim Gibbons values experience among state leaders as he chooses that direction, and I’m honored to be part of his team.”

The transition team has two primary missions:  (1) to identify the issues that will receive the greatest emphasis in his administration, and (2) to find qualified candidates for appointed positions.  Together, these two functions help define the administration of the next governor.

“This is not about politics,” explained Gibbons.  “It’s about our state’s future.  Nevadans deserve the best people in their government.  I’m proud to have such outstanding leaders at the core of my team.  I’m confident they will help me lead Nevada in the right direction for the benefit of all Nevadans.”

Co-directors Wade and Miller have extensive business careers.  Monte Miller is the CEO of KeyState Corporate Management.  He serves on the board of directors of the Federal Home Loan Bank of San Francisco, the executive committee of the Nevada Development Authority, and the board of directors for the Community College of Southern Nevada Foundation.  Patty Wade is the founder and co-owner of Wade Development Company, a large master plan developer.  She serves as a commissioner on the state’s Commission on Economic Development, as co-chair for the statewide Nevada P-16 Council on Education and is active on more than a dozen other boards and commissions, including the foundation boards of both the University of Nevada, Reno and Truckee Meadows Community College

Governor-elect Jim Gibbons announced today the formation of the first two working groups, budget and education, designed to assist him in completing a successful transition from the Guinn administration to the new Gibbons administration in January.

“As I begin to organize my administration, heavy emphasis will be placed on building a solid budget without raising new taxes and also working to improve our K-16 education system,” Governor-elect Gibbons said.  “With diverse backgrounds and a commitment to bipartisanship, these highly qualified Nevadans will help me chart the best course for our state over the next two years.  I look forward to them joining former Governors Bryan and List and Lieutenant Governor Hunt on my transition team.”

The nine-member budget working group will be asked to review Governor Guinn’s budget and forward recommendations to Governor-elect Gibbons for consideration prior to him finalizing and submitting a budget next month.
