Nevada
Cancer Institute (NVCI) was honored with the Gold Well
Workplace Award for its employee wellness program, being
named one of the nation’s healthiest companies by the Wellness
Councils of America (WELCOA).
The
announcement marks the first time that a Nevada-based company
has received recognition from WELCOA.
NVCI was
chosen by WELCOA based on its accomplishments in employee
wellness programs that improved the quality of life for the
staff. NVCI’s workplace wellness and disease prevention program,
Healthy Options Provided for Employees (HOPE) is designed
specifically to enable employees to live a healthy life by
proactively and effectively managing their health.
There are
numerous wellness programs offered to NVCI employees and family
members. Areas of focus range from fitness and nutrition
education and support, to screening and prevention tips, to
stress management and relaxation techniques.
“Nevada
Cancer Institute has made a commitment to help create a
community that enjoys the finest health care available,” said
Heather Murren, NVCI chief executive officer. “We have a
responsibility to lead by example and offer our staff and
volunteers the resources they need to enjoy a healthier
lifestyle.”
Jamie
Albright, NVCI corporate wellness manager, said caregivers often
neglect to take care of themselves.
“NVCI’s
programs allow employees to have the resources for living a
healthy life and reducing chronic disease risks, including
cancer, right here at the workplace,” Albright said.
To advance
an aggressive national worksite wellness agenda, WELCOA has
developed the Well Workplace Awards initiative, a national
competition where companies of all sizes and types submit
extensive applications highlighting their health promotion
programming efforts.
With more
than 2,500 member organizations located throughout North
America, WELCOA is highly regarded for their innovative and
results-oriented approach to worksite wellness. Only a handful
of companies each year meet the rigorous standards necessary to
achieve a Well Workplace Award.
To
qualify, companies must provide extensive documentation on seven
specific benchmarks: Senior Level Support, Wellness Teams, Data
Collection, Strategic Operating Plan, Interventions and
Programs, Supportive Environments and Evaluation of Outcomes.
“Nevada
Cancer Institute has made a strong commitment to the health and
well-being of its employees. In this undertaking, Nevada Cancer
Institute has created a
work environment that is second to none in terms of morale,
productivity, and health,” said David Hunnicutt, President of
the Wellness Councils of America. “You have truly become one of
‘America’s Healthiest Companies.’”
