The Clark County
Democratic Party is under new leadership for the first time in 25 years.
We are gearing up to win seats for Democrats in 2006!
This summer, former
Chairman Charlie Waterman retired after 25 years of service to the
county party. Clark County Democrats have elected Liz Foley, a
fourth-generation Nevadan, to take the helm of the group. Foley, a Las
Vegas attorney, is heading the group with first vice chairman Justin
Gilbert.
Already, the Clark
County Democrats revived an old tradition, the Jefferson Jackson
fundraising dinner. The county party raised almost $50,000 from the
Oct. 22 dinner, and all funds will go toward helping Democrats win in
2006.
Please check
www.clarkcountydemocrats.org to keep up with our energized county
party. Foley and Gilbert have already designated several goals for the
2006 election year including:
-
Holding precinct
caucuses on Feb. 11 throughout Clark County. The county party plans
to hold meetings in Boulder City, Las Vegas, North Las Vegas,
Henderson and unincorporated Clark County on Feb. 11. Details will be
announced on
www.clarkcountydemocrats.org. Any registered Democrat in Clark
County is welcome to attend the precinct caucuses, where Democrats
will elect delegates to the March 11 county convention, and discuss
resolutions for the 2006 Clark County Democratic Party platform.
We’ll also talk more about how you can get involved in 2006!
-
The Democratic
Neighborhood Alliance will recruit Democratic leaders in neighborhoods
around the county. They’ll help organize Democrats in 2006, but it
won’t stop there – this group will be in place even in off election
years to monitor issues and help Democrats communicate with their
local elected officials.
-
The Progressive
Voting Project will ensure that every vote is counted in 2006. The
group will monitor early voting sites chosen so that they represent
all voters in the county. The group will advocate against proposals
that could hinder the Democratic vote – including a recent proposal to
require voters to pay for voter identification cards. And the project
will advocate for measures to protect voters, including on-site
election judges who can react to problems at individual polling sites.
