The Gordie Brown Show at the
Golden Nugget
| |
 |
|
A lady
friend of mine by the name of Jan, from Phoenix, was coming to
Vegas to visit me on Saturday. We had talked about to seeing
some shows, but, because of the short notice, the tickets we
wanted were not available. As an after thought, I was able to
acquire tickets for the Gordie Brown show, that's "Downtown
Gordie Brown."
I had
heard good things about him and his show as a singer and
impressionist. Some people were saying he was another Danny Gans
talent-wise. His show is a fast-paced-never-take-a-breath kind
of a show. He starts out doing impressions of the usual
suspects but as the show goes on he gets into many more
impressions that you have not heard before, like off the wall
character actors like Christopher Walken. |

It's a wonder
he knows who he is when he wakes up in the morning. He must have
done a hundred different voices and singers throughout an hour and a
half show. In every song that he sang that we knew, he created these
new comedy lyrics to them that were hysterical. He never sang a
straight lyric to anything! He did a unique Michael Jackson that
was original and very funny. He did some dancing, played the
guitar
there was never a pause in the show. He was backed by a
very tight band of outstanding musicians. I didn't get the
musicians names but I know the name of the Sax player because I am a
Sax player and I've seen him around town in the past. His name is
Rocco Barbado. I left the show very impressed and I suggest it not
be an after thought, but your first thought when looking for a show
to see in Vegas.

My associate
and I went to the Café de Tout at 7:00pm on a Thursday night. The
entrance and the whole café have a comfortable feeling with a
retro contemporary décor. We were greeted by the owner/manager
George Toumaian and were seated at a step-up stage area where
our table was right next to the musicians and singer. We were
served some of their special dishes that George recommended, all of
which were very fresh and quite healthy too. My associate had
the Raspberry Rhapsody, sun-dried cranberries, candied pecans,
tomatoes, sunflower seeds and bacon on a spring mix with
raspberry vinaigrette. I had the soup-of-the-day, a Pastina
soup with little meatballs, both dishes had great flavor. This
was followed by roasted turkey and avocado and bacon sandwich on
wheat pita bread. My associate had the veggie sandwich with
feta cheese, vegetables, sprouts and tomatoes on wheat pita bread.
George then brought us their special pumpkin lattes. And we
topped it off sharing a baklava cheesecake. It was
fantastic! Everything was excellent! |

The music was
contemporary standards and smooth jazz. Tommy Thompson played
the saxophones, a world class musician, and Dennis Mellen on
Keyboards, outstanding. To top it off the beautiful and
talented singer, Jeannie Snow, who will mesmerize you with her
great voice and how she works with the audience. Tommy and
Jeannie are amazing together, working off each other's energy.
I highly recommend Café de Tout, I'll be back
many more times
in the future. |
