I
can't tell you what a thrill it is to be in such wonderful company here
at Vegas Community Online. While most folks know me as the bow-tie
weather guy, many are also aware of my deep commitment to this whole
crazy town. These are the things I'll be sharing with you as time goes
by.
There's certainly a lot more weather here than most folks imagine. When
I first accepted a job here back in 1989 my friends where I was living
(Denver) just kind of laughed and said, "You're kidding, right? There's
no weather in Las Vegas, is there?" Some even added jokes like, "I'll
bet you'll have a showgirl on there every night and you'll say 'Hey
Trixiepull the one armed-bandit and let's see what the next five days
are gonna look like!'"
But, as most folks discover after living here even less than a year, we
do have our share of weather here, although it's certainly not
anywhere near as rough as the bitter blizzardy winters from the Rockies
on east. Besides the heat that, for some, takes a little getting used to
(while others simply wallow in temps at 110° or higher!), I think it's
fair to say that one of the biggest weather surprises for newcomers is
our frequent bouts with gusty wind.

Of course, there's no denying the
scary nature of flash flooding, which can take even old-timers by
surprise.
I'll be going into a lot more depth on some of the wacky weather
phenomena that visit our lovely desert in the coming months, not to
mention whatever observations I may or may not have on our greater
community at large.
But today I mostly just wanted to say Howdy, and I hope your day is
Mostly Sunny!
