HOOTERS CASINO HOTEL—
A NEW TWIST FOR LAS VEGAS

On Thursday the horizons of Las Vegas witnessed another exciting opening with Hooters Casino Hotel opening its doors with some two hundred Hooters girls and forty Hooters Calendar Girls. The refreshing outlook to the resort gaming business had its share of celebrities.

Former Miami quarterback, Dan Morina of the Miami Dolphins, Carrot Top, hypnotist Anthony Cools, Brooke Burke, Gene Simmons of Kiss, Dennis Haskins (Mr. Belding of 'Saved by The Bell'), JD Nicholas and William 'WAK' King of the Commodores, and fitness expert, Tony Little. All these celebrities had some interesting comments regarding Hooters which we will elaborate on in a moment.

Edward Droste, the co-founder and director of Hooters restaurant concept and brand played a key role in all aspects of Hooters, which was formerly Hotel San Remo. Hundreds of people lined up to taste the world famous chicken wings at Hooters restaurant which is connected to Porch Dogs, a Caribbean-themed casual indoor/outdoor club with a full-service bar and live entertainment. They're joined by the sports fan favorites, Pete & Shorty's Book & Bar. The Dam Restaurant, a 24-hour dining café and buffet and The Lobby Bar, conveniently located at the main entrance…well, it's what you would expect for Hooters. Everything at The Dam Restaurant is made fresh. There are no frozen vegetables or fish and the service is efficient and friendly. Another popular place to eat is The Bait Shoppe which features a fresh Sushi bar which opens up to a tropical pool area, complete with palm trees, waterfalls, cabanas and Nippers Pool Bar. This is certainly a fun place for folks to gather 'round and watch the beautiful girls. We must not forget the '13' Martini Bar which opens up to the casino and features some great entertainment with jazz and rhythm and blues. What would any hotel be without a gourmet restaurant, which is why Dan Marino's Fine Food and Spirits is the restaurant situated at the entrance of the hotel. You can expect to see the likes of Burnie Banks and many other sports personalities dinning at Marino's.

JD Nicholas, who lives in Las Vegas was elated with Hooters new concept. "Richard Langolis, the Vice President is a good friend of ours we're glad to be here for the festivities." According to JD, the Commodores have received keys from many cities. I asked him if he had received a key from the city of Las Vegas, surprisingly he had not. I predict that this year, the Commodores will receive the key from our mayor. Walter 'Clyde' Orange, who wasn't at the opening is still writing some good lyrics and is doing very well according to JD Nicholas regarding health issues. Walter had had a stroke a couple of years ago at the Hilton. Since that time, he has changed his whole life around in regard to healthy foods. JD and WAK had mentioned to me that the Commodores will be appearing at the MGM Grand this April. In the meantime, their new CD, which is untitled, will be released later this year. Both gentlemen were playing in the celebrity poker tournament Saturday. Unfortunately they did not win. WAK said he could have won $21,000.00 but just did not have the cards in his favor. Carrot Top, who I spoke with on Friday, said he was happy with his new show at the Luxor. Carrot is rather buff these days. He tells me he has been working out all his life. The truth of the matter is that he has been serious at body building for two years now.

Brooke Burke, who left the scene early on Saturday, had her share of fun and plenty of pictures taken on Friday, opening night. According to Brooke, she will never forget Wild on E, after all that is where she got her start. But the sexy, energetic young lady said she enjoys live sitcoms and stage productions. "I like that immediate gratification that you get from a live audience. There is nothing like it."

Gene Simmons (left) of Kiss didn't waste anytime being friendly with pretty ladies interviewing him. When it came down to the nitty gritty in talking about his management career, Gene didn't want to talk about that. The truth of the matter is Simmons used to manage Liza Minelli. She was a true diva according to him, but Simmons is no longer in the management business. He is however more than the face of Kiss. He dabbles in drag racing, magazines, and producing; so he is quite the entrepreneur. Let's not forget Dennis Haskins (right), he said he would not trade the fun weekend at Hooters for anything. "This has been a great weekend. The management, the girls, and the food are first class. Although this may not be a Four Seasons property with large suites; who spends time in their room anyway?"

Hooters Casino Hotel puts the fun in Las Vegas and adds a new twist, thanks to the Hooters girls and those famous chicken wings.

WHOSE FRIEND ARE YOU?

Last week I spoke to Bill Pinkney (right) of the original Drifters and actor Tom Halick of The Young and The Restless fame. During our conversation we shared thoughts on friendship. Most of us have a close circle of friends. Friends that we have known for a long time and feel very comfortable with. Some of us try to be friends with everyone; but that doesn't always work. We certainly have our differences and our prejudices. After all, we are not perfect so does it really matter? That depends on how you look at the over all picture of things. Take for instance Jesus Christ; both Bill and Tom, including myself, agree that Jesus was a perfect man. Why then can't we work on being more compassionate toward our fellow human beings?

Have you ever watched a person walking up to a little cute dog? They have never seen the dog, but they start petting it. The fact that they did not know the dog, but that it was adorable, they just had to pet it; of course there are those big dogs who look ferocious that you would not think of petting, yet they may be friendly. But when it comes to people, we humans stay in our own circles. What would Jesus Christ do in today's society? In the King James version of the Bible, it clearly states that Jesus mingled with people from all walks of life. What about you? AS a child of God and as a respect to the man who died for our sins, would you out of respect and mercy for Jesus work on being more compassionate toward your fellow human being? This is not a perfect world my friend. However, it is a world of hope. With hope and compassion in dealing with everyone, this world would be a much better place to live in. On the other hand, if we don't work on our compassion and friendship, this world will continue to have more problems. Ignoring the problems will not make them go away; and it certainly won't make society a better place to live, nor will it make it easier to bring up future generations. What are you going to do? Will you stay in your circle of friends or will you look for the good in each soul you meet? Will you do it out of respect for Jesus Christ or will you look the other way? Either way, it is your choice in what you are going to do in making this world a better place to live.

HURRAY FOR NASCAR

Jeff Green's lap time of 170.068 mph posted last week during Monday morning's session was pretty impressive for Nascar preseason thunder in Las Vegas. Jamie McMurray (right), who posted the fastest speed of 169.316 mph will join 44 drivers on hand in testing their cars for the March 12th UAW-Daimler Chrysler 400.

You can expect well over 140,000 people for this event. That means more for the economy of Las Vegas, including downtown Las Vegas.

Until then keep your visions positive and keep positive people around you.
