* This New Year's Eve Fireworks in Las Vegas will involve ten casinos starting at the Stratosphere and ending at the Excalibur. The $500,000 cost to produce this fireworks extravaganza is designed to entertain the one-third of a million expected visitors in Las Vegas.
* The Tropicana Casino announced this week a one-night only show by comedy legend and comedienne extraordinaire, Joan Rivers, on Saturday, January 14, 2006 in the Tiffany Theatre. Tickets are $49, plus tax.
* 1st Annual Fetish & Fantasy New Years Eve Spectacular at the Empire Ballroom!
* According to the Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Bureau there are 134,000 hotel and motel rooms in Las Vegas as of the end of 2005 and estimates of 23,441 additional rooms to be built by 2009.
* The Las Vegas Philharmonic and The Ritz-Carlton, Lake Las Vegas presents a luxurious New Year's Eve weekend. The gala begins at 8:00 p.m. on December 31 with cocktails followed by a three-course celebration dinner. Las Vegas Philharmonic will serenade ball guests until 10:00 p.m. The Walt Boenig Big Band will perform 'til midnight, when the New Year will be announced with a fireworks display over Lake Las Vegas! Reservations for the Viennese Ball Getaway Weekend package are $1,200 per couple.
* According to Keith Schwer, the director of the Center for Business and Economic Research at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas, Clark County between October 2004 and October 2005 had a 7.4% increase in jobs, this equates to 61,700 new jobs.
* The newest casino in Las Vegas started off with a real blaze this past weekend, literally. During an opening celebration, the fireworks display ignited some building material on top of the 24-story hotel tower. The $600 million dollar project started off on a bad foot, thank goodness no one was injured.
* In Nevada between 1994 and 2003 the number of individual taxpayers who reported more than $200,000 in adjusted gross income grew by more than 170%. The total number of individuals went from 7,279 to 19,683.
* The ghost town of Goldfield has been added to Nevada's Register of Historic Places. Goldfield at one time was the largest city in Nevada, and this occurred in the early 1900s with a population of 30,000. In 1906, the famous boxing match "Battle of the Century" took place in Goldfield when Joe Gans fought Oscar Nelson in front of more than 100,000 spectators. The fight lasted 42 rounds with Gans the victor. Joe Gans is considered the first African-American world champion in boxing.
* Once again Nevada is rated the fastest growing state in the nation, this is the 19th time in a row this has happened. According to the census data, Nevada had a 3.5% increase between July 2004 and July 2005.
