Ballerina/Danseur Crossing

Almost 1400 children and teens arabesque, leap, and pirouette their way into classes in Summerlin rehearsal studios and in fourteen Clark County District schools with Nevada Ballet Theatre's Academy and Future Dance programs.

Nevada Ballet Theatre's Academy is one of the few professional dance schools in the nation affiliated with a professional ballet company and one of the area's finest. The Academy provides both intensive education in the highly structured and disciplined techniques of dance and related performing arts as well as classes for fun. Housed in one of the best dance facilities in the nation, the Academy's Summerlin home provides rehearsal space to Nevada Ballet Theatre's 41-member professional ballet company, and studios and classes for up-and-coming ballet stars of tomorrow and for recreation! Whether you are a three-year old who loves to jump in circles, a mom who wants to stay in shape, or a young man or woman who has always dreamed of a career in dance the Academy of Nevada Ballet Theatre has classes just for you!

One the left side of the 36,000 square foot magnificent facility is the professional company members rehearsing for their next performance. And on the right are seven additional studios filled with all ages learning a variety of dance genres from ballet to tap, hip hop, jazz, and more!

Academy of Nevada Ballet Theatre

The Academy of Nevada Ballet Theatre was founded in 1979 to inspire imaginative self expression through dance. With instruction offered in tap, jazz, ballet and hip-hop, the Academy of Nevada Ballet Theatre teaches over 600 children annually. Recently the Academy added a program geared towards adult classes, including ballet for adults, pilates, and jazzercise.

Each year, advanced Academy students are selected to audition for the Nevada Ballet Theatre Youth Company. These individuals are given the opportunity to be part of professional productions. They are cast in roles calling for young people in ballets that include The Nutcracker, Coppelia, Giselle and Peter Pan. The Youth Company also participates in community events as representatives of Nevada Ballet Theatre.

The Academy is also home to a family of distinguished, award-winning and world renowned instructors in various disciplines of dance, acting, and musical theatre.

Nevada Ballet Theatre's
Education and Outreach Programs

In addition, there's Nevada Ballet Theatre's Education and Outreach department which reaches thousands through a school time matinee performance at the theatre as well as on-site classes. Nevada Ballet Theatre's exciting Future Dance Program brings dance classes into the schools and community of more than 700 Las Vegas students from 14 school neighborhoods. How wonderful for our students to be learning a new language. No it's not exactly French or Spanish. "Grand jeté, Point-flex, Demi-plies, Battement tendu"—it's the language of ballet! Every year, they share their new knowledge and skills through Nevada Ballet Theatre's Free Future Dance Spring Concerts with an audience that breaks all stereotypes of what ballet patrons are supposed to look like.

What makes Nevada Ballet Theatre's Future Dance Spring Recitals unique from others is that it specifically reaches Las Vegas Valley children who often have never seen the inside of a concert hall, let alone ever thought of performing in one.

And perceptions are changing. That's where Nevada Ballet Theatre serves as an agent of change. It is a well known fact that children who have been exposed to the arts at an early age do better in school, are less liable to abuse alcohol and drugs, and are less likely to be influenced by crime and delinquency. And this is in addition to the obvious benefits of basic ballet training—discipline, better physical conditioning, improved coordination, and increased strength and flexibility.

Nevada Ballet Theatre's Education & Outreach department is working hard to insure that the performing arts are increasingly accessible to the kids who may need it the most. Outreach and education command a primary focus for Nevada Ballet Theatre as it strives to positively impact the lives of children in the nation's fastest growing metropolitan area. In addition to its Academy, Nevada Ballet Theatre has established six distinct outreach programs, including: Future Dance in School and Future Dance Creative Communities, an extended dance training program free for Clark County children from high needs communities and brings classes to their school or to Las Vegas public housing communities; The Community Matinee Series, which offers Clark County students the opportunity to attend main stage performances of Nevada Ballet Theatre at deeply discounted rates; Smart Steps, a lively interactive review of the evolution of dance, presented in Clark County Schools; and The Youth Company, which offers performing, training, and mentoring opportunities to the academy's most dedicated students, including Future Dance scholars. Recently added is Dance, Inc., which targets middle school students through an aesthetic education program.

Through these programs, Nevada Ballet Theatre brings the language of ballet to more than 12,000 youth annually.
