I recently had
occasion to use a refrigerator company (1st one in the book)
for a refrigerator repair in my home. The owner of the company (Mike)
replaced a part (defroster) and spent approximately 1/2 hour at the
house. He informed me of the charges beforehand $285 and I agreed to
them. During the course of said repair he asked to use my towels to
clean up the water that leaked onto the kitchen floor, and upon
completion informed us that we needed to shut down the unit for two days
(to allow it to defrost) before restarting it. It just so happened that
another appliance repair serviceman was working on our oven at the same
time, when he was through he happened to notice the receipt from company
(1st refrigerator company in the book) and was aghast at what
I had been charged. He claimed the part (which he carries on his truck)
costs $25 and that I could defrost the unit myself w/ a hair dryer in
30-45 minutes and be up and running. I tried that and he was right.
In short, if
everything Mike's competitor claims is true one might be better advised
to shop around a little before using the first name in the phonebook.
