| In a
town of glitz and glitter there is a tiny gem tucked away on W. Sahara
at the "Egg & I" of all places. Four nights a week in quaint
surroundings, a small troupe of performers pull off an incredibly funny
evening with a very clever script and a ton of spontaneity, in a show
called "Marriage Can Be Murder." What makes this show so
clever, is that throughout the show there are continuous snippets of
musical banter that is "right-on" with the evening's
interaction within the audience. It is really amazing that they have
so many songs cued up and ready for the perfect moment.
The small venue makes for a very friendly
atmosphere for the interaction throughout the evening, but because
there is no pressure to participate, you never fell uncomfortable if you
don't.
Besides an entertaining evening (even the
wait staff puts on a great show), this
production is one of the last of a dying breed of "Dinner Theatre." The reason
is, that usually when you hear "Dinner Theatre," neither the
dinner nor the theatrics are
very good. So it is clear why this one has not faded away. It has both
good entertainment and good food. You have a choice of Ribeye Steak,
Broiled Chicken, Salmon or a Veggie Pasta for your entree. All dinners come with
a side of scrumptious "garlic mashed potatoes," a salad and cheesecake for dessert.
What is also a pleasant surprise, is that the meal never seems to get in the
way of the evening's entertainment, so you never fell like you have to hurry
through it.
What surprised us the most was a group
of about a dozen or so that came right from a Marriage ceremony,
including the bride in her gown and groom in his tux. We found it kinda strange to
think someone would want to spend their "Wedding Dinner" at a show called
"Marriage Can Be Murder." There was also a couple that was celebrating their
20th Anniversary
now THAT makes sense! Actually, it was a GREAT
choice. "Marriage Can Be Murder" allowed the wedding couple to start their marriage with
a ton of laughter, and that's
probably the best advice to any newlywed
keep it FUN!
We were in stitches most of the evening
and I really don't remember when I saw an audience have this much fun.
The standouts of the show are
Suzanne Altreche' the star and Brad Burdsoll who played the arresting
officer. |
