MAY DAY…MAY DAY…MAY DAY!
WHAT'S HAPPENING TO THIS TOWN?
MARCH PROVED TO be a this-and-that of the "same ol' same ol'." But April has brought a different variety of news-worthy-ness! Besides the local yokels…times and faces of lounges have drastically become insensitive to real music and with the exception of ENTERTAINMENT DIRECTORS such as IRA STERNBERG of THE HILTON HOTEL & CASINO, RON GARRETT of the SAHARA HOTEL & CASINO, MARK MASSIMINO of the STRATOSPHERE HOTEL & CASINO/ARIZONA CHARLIES, JUDY ALBERTI of the STATION CASINOS, JOE LEONI of the GOLDEN NUGGET HOTEL & CASINO, RON BELL of the ORLEANS HOTEL & CASINO…(and yes…there are a few more incredible Entertainment Executives) most are going to the sex clubs for under-30-year-olds where the deafening beat is a speeding pulse mixed with alcohol and whatever gets them into a mental fantasyland to spend their daddy's money. Or the hotels are four walling everything! That means if you want to work or showcase your musical abilities and talents, you must pay the hotels for the use of their lounges and showrooms. So you had better have a great following! Anything to keep the CEOs counting their bucks and sleeping well knowing their wives & significant others are able to keep their noses up in the air. There's a great commercial about several bank CEOs in a cage who can be kept with champagne & caviar. The cage idea is really good…
And as I watched a re-run of The Godfather and the beginning of our great Las Vegas, I felt saddened by the command Al Pacino gave Frank Sinatra (faked in the movie) that music and gambling go hand in hand and to bring his movie star and entertainer friends to work and be paid for their talents in the Las Vegas lounges and showrooms. Saddened because that was the past…those were the days. Today's reality check…these aren't. Who knows who will be on first and who will be on second in all aspects of the Las Vegas Entertainment venues. Hmmmm…tough to take the high road on this…

 When can one get Elvis Presley, Marilyn Monroe, Shania Twain, Robert De Niro, Barbra Streisand, Frank Sinatra,
Rodney Dangerfield and Willie Nelson to all show up and be escorts? How about Nate Tannebaum (being sung to and teased by Marilyn Monroe)? The Left…the Right…and Reform parties all sitting at the same table? Hahahaha… what a hoot!! Then videos from Tony Curtis, Congressman Jon Porter and Chrissi Scinta to thank VCO (Marleen Marino) for allowing us all to participate in writing columns for the website? How about the MacDonalds? Peggy King? Marlene Ricci? Casey Smith? Tony Sacca? Mary Kaye? Monte Rock? Entertainment Directors Ira Sternberg (Hilton Hotel & Casino) and Ron Garrett (Sahara Hotel & Casino)? The list goes on and on!
 Marleen Marino, CEO & PUBLISHER of "VEGAS COMMUNITY ONLINE," gave a SPECIAL "THANK YOU" EVENT for her columnists which took place at TAKE 1 Nightclub on April 18, 2006. It was a special gathering with delicious hors d'oeuvres from JOSETTE'S BISTO and CAFE DE TOUT, and superb gelato from THE GELATO CAFE. The Evening was hosted by the famous PETE BARBUTTI (that's right folks!) and PETER ALLMAN. Music by TEDDY KAYE…woohoo!
As for myself…I want to say THANK YOU…THANK YOU…THANK YOU MARLEEN! for bringing out the best in me! We have become great friends and I am proud to be part of a community of talented writers for Las Vegas because of you.
