Most Good Things Must Come To An End

I regret that it is time to put Marleen’s “baby” to rest…as Marleen has been, now, for one year.

Marleen put 10 to 12 hours a day into VCO! Her partner and staff that tried to keep VCO viable gave it another year of life, but try as they may, were unable to give it the love and attention needed to fulfill Marleen’s dream.

My sincere thanks to the efforts of Michael Sturm, Jay Taylor, Parker Philpot and Kid Cary, but they have full time jobs of their own…thus could not devote the time necessary, especially with little compensation.

I would like to thank you, VCO writers and contributors, from my heart for your continued contributions to VCO’s “Friday Flyer.” However with only about 12% to 15% of the writers staying on after Marleen’s passing and with very little advertising activity, I find it is no longer feasible to continue with VCO. This does not mean that sometime in the future it will not be revived (perhaps by Marleen’s daughter, Nina). After all, the greatest city of them all needs something like Marleen’s vision and passion.

Thanks again, it was a fun 6 years.

VCO Artist of the Month—September 2010

VINNIE FAVORITO

Artist of the Month  Vinnie Favorito

Stand-up comedy is nothing new to Boston native, Vinnie Favorito; it’s what he does best. First hitting the stage in 1986 when his mother made him take a class to overcome stage fright, Favorito was quickly perceived as a natural. That same year on the WZOU 94.5 FM Top 40 Star Search Competition—only his second stage performance ever—Favorito proved his comedic talents and prevailed as the winner.

Audiences across the globe hail Favorito for his ability to verbally exploit audience members, integrating each person he talks to with the next person. He’s loud, crass and inappropriate—and audiences love every minute of it. Famed comedian George Carlin told Vinnie he’s a fan because, “he is not afraid to walk the line, but he doesn’t cross it,” and has been referred to as “Don Rickles with venom” by Milton Berle... Although not a movie, but an HBO series—“Six Feet Under” in my opinion has the saddest ending of anything I've ever seen. Thanks to all the writers and readers of VCO. I will truly miss reading all the great stories you have so generously shared with us. ~Jay :-)
