I'VE WRITTEN BEFORE about how talented Gordie Brown is and great things should be happening to him. Well, it looks as if that will be happening, as he is now opening at THE VENETIAN. Gordie Brown has left audiences laughing in the aisles as he brings together his engaging comedy and mastery of impersonation. Accompanied by his sizzling five-piece band, Gordie Brown's performance is a combination of comedy and music that draws from generations of your favorite stars, politicians, and pop culture icons. He is a performer that defies description and a show unlike anything you've ever seen before. Congrats Gordie!
Comedic hypnotist Anthony Cools, best known for his racy and uninhibited brand of adult comedy, returns to PARIS, Las Vegas for an indefinite engagement starting November 2nd. Tremendously successful at the EXCALIBUR, Cools is noted for his bawdy comedy as he extracts carnal desires from his audience through hypnosis. Shocking and real, Cools' guests are transported to a world where their subconscious naughtiness is exposed. However, Cools keeps a strong emphasis on the comedy, careful not to embarrass his subjects; a courtesy that has rallied a cult-like following for him.
Folies Bergere and Jubilee are two classic shows that made beautiful Showgirls in sparkling costumes and elaborate headdresses famous and representative of Las Vegas. The world famous Folies production show has been entertaining audiences at the TROPICANA for the past 47 years. Performances also feature talented dancers and acrobats, exciting specialty acts, and a variety of musical styles.
And, BALLY'S, where the Titanic sinks and Sampson creates havoc, film actress and "Dancing with the Stars" frontrunner Vivica A. Fox made a special guest appearance for one night only, in celebration of Jubilee's 25th anniversary. Vivica showed the showgirls steps she learned from her show, as the cast helped transform Vivica into a classic Las Vegas showgirl
With the closing of Splash at THE RIVIERA, these are the only two classic original shows left, as replacements of Cirque and magic shows have taken over. Let's hope Folies and Jubilee continue for many more years.
Fun, hip, upscale and alive, SOCIAL HOUSE RESTAURANT at the TI is now open and features a live DJ and interactive sushi bar. Outdoor patio lounge seating provides a stunning view of the Strip, and provides VIP viewing of the live battle between the Sirens of TI and the pirates of the Bull Ship. Indoor dining features several intimate and semi-private dining areas. The restaurant becomes a lounge as dining tables are converted into cocktail tables for the late night crowd. The fashionable, yet relaxed atmosphere is ideal for enjoying Sake, wine and many other libations. It has become the new In place.
I went to the first anniversary of HOGS AND HEIFERS downtown and it was also bike festival time. I never saw so many bikes and bikers together at one time. This place is crazy fun if you are into girls dancing on the bar and girl customers joining in, with loud music and a loud crowd.
BOSENDORFER PIANOS has arrived in Las Vegas with unbelievable exclusive pianos on their showroom floor. One of their pianos sells for $750,000. Each of these pianos takes years to build and are individually handcrafted. Only 200 pianos a year are built to be sold in the U.S. The likes of Frank Sinatra, Stevie Wonder and Billy Joel are those who have owned these masterpiece pianos. They are worth seeing in Summerlin, even if you are not in the market to own one of these. I believe cheapies start at $70,000.

Comedy/magician Jeff Hobson who likes to be known as "The Hilarious Host of Las Vegas" is no ordinary performer. He has the ability to take a series of world-class acts and make them into an A+ show in "VThe Ultimate Variety Show" in the V Theatre at the ALADDIN's DESERT PASSAGE. Jeff's honed his act like a star with a little bit of the late Paul Lynde and the fancy clothes a la Liberace. He's the perfect warm-up for the acts that he introduces: Drummer Doug De Forrest, Juggler Wally Eastwood, Magician Jason Byrne, Gymnasts Iouri & Nikolai, Tino Ferreira and Kathleen Larible and Joe Trammel "The TV Guy" and the reality comedy of Russ Merlin.
"OPERA UNDER THE STARS" the annual Nevada Opera Theatre's Festival at MONTELAGO VILLAGE, was the best ever this year. Although a pre-opera dinner and silent auction at The Bistro Zinc lasted a bit too long, the concert started on the floating stage before attendees at the dinner could arrive. However, there was reserved seating for them. The reserved white seats, which were usually on the grass, were on red floor runners making for an attractive setting as well as being comfortable. The stage sets and costuming looked great. The Nevada Opera Theatre Chorus was appropriately onstage throughout the concert and Maestro Frank Fitta's Orchestra did a superb job with a beautiful program. Guest artists included: Dinyar Vania, New York City Opera tenor who has been hailed as the next great opera star; the fabulous Demetra George, two-time Grammy nominee who has performed with the Nevada Opera Theatre in leading roles and Viktoria Kurbatskaya, Russian-born soprano. Regional artists include Lance Taubold and Shelley Martinson who have performed together on four major tours throughout the United States, Dr. Morton I. Hyson, well known bass (who can hit low notes better than anyone I have ever heard), and tenors Stephen Plummer and Mathew Edwardsen. All are wonderful performers and this event is an unbelievable gift to the public as these concerts are free. There was a VIP patron reception after the opening night's performance sponsored by Kyrstin and Alex George. Kudos to Eileen Hayes for arranging this exceptional event.
