WE WANTED TO take a quick moment to thank the team at Body English for the generous gifts they bestowed on three members of our Eye on Vegas team. Michael Politz, Bryan Bass and Mike Snedegar were all honored by the pumping hot spot for their contributions to the nightlife industry. In case you were wondering, they all received personalized Movado desk sets. Thanks a bunch guys, class act all the way, and top billing didn’t hurt either!
The Las Vegas Bears finished 5th after losing to Rhode Island in the play-offs over the weekend. Although it was a disappointing loss, Bears player, Brian Klimaski had an uplifting moment with Kevin Lidle, as he talked about his brother, New York Yankees pitcher, Corey Lidle who recently died in a plane crash. Kevin, who plays for Lakefield Florida was wearing a glove with his brother’s initials on in.
Singapore’s Minister Mentor Lee Kuan Yew visited several casino resort properties this weekend to see how Las Vegas grew from a gambling town to host a bevy of integrated resorts. The Singaporeans have shied away from the term ‘casino’ and ‘casino resort’ while awarding its first ‘integrated resort’ contract to the Las Vegas Sands Corporation. The country is currently accepting bids for its second gaming focused resort property.
Three years ago, LVFBM’s The MAIN Event hosted the opening night party for the Nightclub & Bar Convention honoring the Top 100 Nightclubs in America and helped usher PURE Nightclub not only onto the Top 100 list but also the cover of Nightclub & Bar Magazine. Last year, The MAIN Event did it all over again, blowing the doors off of Tao Nightclub on a night they were usually closed, ushering them onto the Top 100 Nightclubs list, the NC&B cover and even a Top Operator award for Tao Nightclub honchos Jason Strauss and Noah Tepperberg. With the blessing of Nightclub & Bar queen Jennifer Robinson we are currently in the planning stages for the 3rd annual The MAIN Event honoring the Top 100 Nightclubs in the country. We will be slowly teasing you with details over coming months so stay tuned …

Forbes Traveler ran a story this past weekend on MSNBC that focused on Las Vegas most luxurious suites, noting that the local hospitality industry is a continuous cycle of one-upmanship. Included in the coverage was George Maloof’s Fantasy Towers expansion at The Palms Resort which, Forbes noted, includes the dual bowling alley Kingpin Suite, basketball court sporting Hardwood Suite and the Hugh Hefner sky villa complete with 24-person Jacuzzi. Also getting recognized for their extravagance were the Artemis and Neptune Villas at Caesars Palace, and our personal favorite, MGM Grand’s SKYLOFTS.
The Victoria Secret store at the Forum Shops is presently displaying the $6.5 million Hearts of Fire Diamond Fantasy bra that contains 2,000 diamonds, hand set in white gold and topped off with a 10-carat, floral diamond brooch in the center. We’ve known about Prince’s upcoming headliner gig at the Rio for some time now but were sworn to secrecy. Since we’re seeing it pretty regularly these days we’re assuming our death pact is done, so yeah, Prince will be signing a contract with the Rio. It’s not the headliner gig Vegas is used to though as we hear the paisley prince will only be performing once a week. Also, Prince has had plans for a Vegas nightclub for some time now, if its going to happen, expect Harrah’s Entertainment and their nightlife guru Pauly Freedman to make it a reality.

Everyone makes mistakes; some are just unfortunately bigger than others. Las Vegas magnate, Steve Wynn, who suffers from an eye disease affecting peripheral vision, was showing off his Picasso masterpiece, Le Reve (meaning The Dream) to Barbara Walters and friends in his office last month, when he accidentally stuck a hole through the middle of the Pablo Picasso masterpiece with his right elbow. Wynn, had just finalized the sale of the 1932 painting to an art collector for $139 million when the accident occurred. Bewitched Director, Nora Ephron, who also witnessed the accident, says that Wynn will keep the painting and repair it.
To be filed under Who Knew … Thanks to our glitterati loving pal Mike Snedegar we got a chance to check out Pauly Shore’s stand up comedy routine at the House of Blues over the weekend. We were half expecting too much weasel and not enough laughs but were pleasantly surprised when the former ‘Son-in-Law’ star had the packed room rolling in the aisles. “Encino Man was a long f****n time ago,” Shore noted before ripping on celebrities, local hotel heirs and his My Space friends list. Next time ‘The Weasel’ comes to town, we recommend checking him out …
The rumor that Los Angeles nightlife czar Sam Nazarian is in negotiations to puchase the Sahara Hotel has been floating around town for so long it’s damn near stale. Neither party returned phone calls trying to confirm validity of the rumor. Guess we will just have to wait and see …
If Worship Thursdays is aimed at the locals, what’s with all the star power partying it up at Tao Las Vegas? Not only did this weeks offering host Brittany, no last name needed, but also Scott Gerber, brother and partner of nightlife czar Rande Gerber, and poker professional David Williams. Okay, fair enough, the top pair playing Williams is now a local, having moved to town last year, but even more so, we were pleased to hear the Texas Tiger is a regular reader of the Eye on Vegas! Also in the house Thursday was Italian food maestro and owner of legendary cucina, Il Mulino (Forum Shops), Brian Galligan. There’s your hat trick Dave!
Speaking of rumors that have been around for a while, this one has singer and actress Jessica Simpson opening a chain of restaurants called Daisy Duke’s, inspired by the Dukes of Hazard character she played in last years remake of the cult television show. Being billed ever so eloquently as a “Hooters-style” restaurant with a barbeque focus, the first outlet is alleged to land at Harrah’s Entertainment’s flagship property, Caesars Palace. Although we love the shorts and Jessica in them, we’re not too sure we’re buying this one.
