From the October 5, 2005 Newsletter

* Country superstar George Strait returns to Las Vegas for a Super Bowl weekend performance live from the MGM Grand Garden Arena, Feb. 4, 2006. The in-the-round concert is scheduled to begin at 8p and Tracy Lawrence is the opening act. Tickets are $50-$95 and go on sale Oct 8 at 10a.

* Blue Man Group opens an updated version of their show in a custom-built, 1760-seat theatre at The Venetian Casino on October 10, 2005. Tickets are $75-$110 and shows are performed nightly at 7p and/or 10p.

* Las Vegas comedian and magician Mac King partners with Barnes & Noble in creating the official Mac King's Magic in a Minute Suitcase O' Magic. Due out in November, it includes 50+ magic tricks, a 64-page book and a one-hour instructional DVD. Intended for kids eight and older, it will sell for $14.95

* Rumor has it that Mix nightclub, located on top of The Hotel at Mandalay Bay Casino is about to reopen after their renovations. This will no doubt become a hot spot overnight.

* This week Krave, the only Las Vegas Strip
alternative club turned one year old.

* The Sirens of TI perform free nightly at 5:30p, 7p, 8:30p and 10p in Sirens' Cove at the front of
Treasure Island Hotel and Casino. The show will be closed for maintenance December 5-24 inclusive.

* Station Casinos Group has purchased a total of 67 acres of land which includes the Wild,
Wild West Casino property and several surrounding acres. Rumor has it they are going
to build a larger than normal Station Casino on this property.

* Another casino is in the horizon for Las Vegas? This time the Southern Highlands Casino-Resort is to be developed on a 100-acre piece of property located at the south end of the Las Vegas strip. The proposed 600 room casino is expected to break ground sometime in 2006

* The Art of Peter Max Gallery at The Forum Shops will host an in-gallery exhibition with world-renowned artist Peter Max on Friday, November 25, 6p-9p, and Saturday, November 26, 1p-4p. Beginning Monday, November 21, collectors can view the installation of paintings that will be on display during the event.

* Paula Poundstone is scheduled for a one night performance at Boulder Station Casino on November 11. Tickets will be $28.50.

* HBO and AEG Live announced this week the first annual The Comedy Festival (TCF) to be held November 17-19, 2005 in Las Vegas. The Comedy Festival will feature
performances by Dave Chappelle, George Lopez, Bill Maher, Dennis Miller and Jon Stewart, as well as a special tribute to Jerry Seinfeld who will be honored
with the first annual The Comedian award. Ticket prices range from $25-$125.

* More sporting events to come to Las Vegas . . . After a 20-year absence, Men's professional tennis will return to Las Vegas on February 27-March 5, 2006. The Tennis Channel Open ATP Tour event will be held at the new Amanda and Stacy Darling Memorial Tennis Center. Last time professional tennis was in Vegas was the Alan King Tennis Classic at Caesars Palace in 1985.

* Want to live like an NBA all star / maybe a Vegas Whale or how about both at the same time? Later this month the Palms Casino will introduce their newest suite, the Hardwood Suite. What makes this hotel room any different from other Vegas suites, maybe it is the full size basketball court with a scoreboard, or how about your own dance floor just to name a couple items. Move over Real World Suite, the big boys are about to arrive at the Palms. No price on the room has been announced at this time, but rumor has it that five
digits are needed per night.

* Only in Las Vegas do you expand before you ever build. UNLV's proposed North Las Vegas campus is already too small and it has not even been built. Originally the regents agreed to a 761-acre site and now they would like to expand that to more than 2,000 acres.

* Want to become a Hooter's Girl?  Hooters Casino Hotel is calling all ladies to audition for Hooters Girls positions on Tuesday, November 8, 2005. Applicants may apply for employment as food servers, cocktail servers, bartenders and table game dealers. On Wednesday, November 9, 2005, Hooters Casino Hotel will be seeking applicants for all general positions throughout the property.  The 711-room Hotel San Remo will remain open as it undergoes an amazing transformation to become the new Hooters Casino Hotel, scheduled to open the first quarter of 2006

* The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society's Southern Nevada Chapter (LLS) presents "Ultimate Breakaway Weekend" December 2 and 3. Festivities include a celebrity golf challenge, a soccer exhibition with U.S. National Team Players, and gala with a special guest appearance by Lance Armstrong and an acoustic performance by Sheryl Crow.  For more information call the Leukemia & Lymphoma office at (702) 436-4220.

* The Cannery Casino presents Johnny Lee & The Urban Cowboy Band on Saturday, November 19 inside The Club.  The performance will begin at 8p and tickets are $12.95.

* The band Bon Jovi, featuring vocalist Jon Bon Jovi, guitarist Richie Sambora, keyboardist David Bryan and drummer Tico Torres, will bring their "Have a Nice Day World Tour" to the MGM Grand Garden Arena Saturday, March 11, 2006. The show is scheduled to begin at 8p.  Tickets priced at $157.50, $105 and $52, plus tax and go on sale Saturday, Oct. 29 at 10a at the MGM Grand Garden Arena box office.

* The Food & Beverage Directors Association of Las Vegas is hosting a charity golf tournament at the Tournament Players Club (TPC) at Summerlin on Monday, November 21. All proceeds will benefit the Food and Beverage Directors Association of Las Vegas' sponsored charities such as Opportunity Village, D.A.R.E. and scholarships for the culinary arts divisions of University of Nevada, Las Vegas, VoTech and other fine educational institutions. This event is open to the public with a participant fee of $175 per person

SEVEN nightclub will close its doors October 30, 2005. The nightclub is located in the path of the upcoming City Center project and the entire area will be leveled and the largest casino/hotel project in history will take place. Look for a new SEVEN style nightclub to open in early 2006 in the Downtown Entertainment District.

* Rumor has it that Hustler Magazine publisher Larry Flynt is searching for a Vegas strip location to open his first theme restaurant, Hustler Bar & Grille. 

* Would you like a $5000 hamburger?  Chef Hubert Keller of Fleur de Lys restaurant in Mandalay Bay has created the FluerBurger 5000. This Kobe burger is topped with foie gras, black truffles and Keller's secret sauce.  Also, included in this price is a bottle of 1990 Chateau Petrus.
