"Mid 70's and 80's"

The middle 70's and 80's brought the rush to the poker promise land - It was "Vegas or Bust" for all the Friday & Saturday night with the boys poker game ravagers across the country. They took a small bankroll a big ego to the "Dust", "Nugge" and Dunes to bump heads with the big boys in the middle of the desert.
Once a year they would duke it out with each other at Binions in the week to ten day WSOP. Now in addition to the Texas invasion they came from the "Right Coast" and they even heard of the Horseshoe tourney in Europe & Alaska. About this time came an advent of "How to" books (I guess if you can't beat them write a book, that explains what you could not apply).

There were some exceptions to that of course - The poker bible, Doyle's "Super System" and help from Sklansky and Ciaffone.

But all and all it was still trial and error for the players that learned their lessons well and did not run of money. They took part in the 133 events of the 80's, and I might add the dealers were still pretty good then (I had not heard a dealer call a "deuce" a "two" and a "trey" a "three"!
