Second Annual World Salsa Championships
Sizzle in Las Vegas
City of Las Vegas declares Thursday,
December 14 World Salsa Championship Day
You haven’t seen
fast footwork until you see some of these dancers! They take salsa
dancing like you have seen on ‘Dancing with the Stars’ to another
level—it is just incredible how fast they move, how intricate the
choreography, how strong and vital the dancers...There isn’t anyone over
30 on the floor competing...one couple comes in at 20 and 17!

Salsa
Seven Inc. is the company responsible for creating the World
Salsa Championships. They have organized a spectacular
opportunity to watch dancers from around the world compete in
Salsa style dance. At the open auditions Wednesday evening,
dancers from around the world, literally, having made their way
to Las Vegas for this competition, were excitable—the room was
full of energy, joy and enthusiastic dancers and their families
and friends. The energy was palpable. They were there to have
fun—lots of it. |

Albert
Torres, the visionary behind the World Salsa Championships and
other members of the Salsa Seven Inc. circulate throughout the
room...salsa lovers extraordinaire.
The Torres
brothers are to be commended for the global goodwill phenomenon
they organized into the Salsa Championships. They managed to
bring together the world’s greatest dancers from more than 20
countries including Columbia, Canada, Argentina, Korea,
Bulgaria, China, India, Sweden, Spain, and Russia, to compete in
four dance divisions. |

The
Competition was held at the South Point over the weekend. The
auditions were held upstairs in one of the ballrooms. The
Semi-Finals and Finals were held in the Arena. Flags from all
the countries of the competitors were hung. Excited attendees in
the audience waved more full sized flags. The Star of David flag
also flew over the section of the seats where a good deal of the
Mexico audience sat.
All of the
dancers were so supportive of each other, cheering on each pair
or team...yelling for great executions, coming out of their
seats for moves they hadn’t seen before...and screaming and
chanting for sustained salsa footwork or showy finishes.
This event
was truly global in nature and inspiring to witness. |
